Fabrizio Romano says Spurs could return with a summer bid for Marc Guehi after failed January pursuit

Tottenham Hotspur looked to pursue a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi on the deadline day with Daniel Levy’s moment of madness bid that was rejected by the Eagles; however, despite the Lilywhites failure to snap his signature, journalist Dean Jones insists that the interest is not dead just yet, with the North Londoners backed to revisit a move for the 24-year-old in the offseason.

The 24-year-old English international has been linked with a move away from his current employers for some time, given that he is one of the best players in his position in the league, and now he could be looking to compete with the elites of the English top tier.

However, a lot for Tottenham and their possibilities of signing Guehi depend on if Ange Postecoglou can secure Champions League football at White Hart Lane, which at the moment looks like a difficult prospect.

Dean Jones goes on to note that the Cobham academy graduate will prefer a move to Chelsea if the Blues were to shoulder Tottenham for a probable transfer while hinting that the West Londoners might be in pole position for any possible transfer for Guehi.

Speaking on Market Madness, Jones said:

“I had some scepticism when I first saw they went in for him. I’d heard nothing about it. At Tottenham, I have some reasonable contacts, but it wasn’t something I’d heard before all of this.

“They probably sensed that this was their big chance to go and do it because the likelihood is that Marc Guehi would choose to go to Chelsea, I’ve heard that for a long time now, and that will probably still be the case if Guehi leaves Crystal Palace at the end of the season then that’s where he ends up.”

There are still hopes for Spurs to push for a move for Guehi, but it looks difficult, especially if Chelsea were to compound their interest, given how they are close to securing European football for next season. However, at Tottenham, Guehi will be given space and time to express himself and thrive, something that would not be available at Stamford Bridge.
