Daniel Levy has been vying to move for a new striker for two windows now, and while he did get his hands on Dominic Solanke as a marquee arrival in the previous summer interval, the club chairman had been fortifying interest to sign Lille centre-forward Jonathan David for a while, and the Lilywhites are expected to be among contenders for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
David will be departing his current employers on a free transfer given his contract comes to a conclusion at the end of the ongoing campaign. And given how the Canadian has been scoring for fun in the French top tier, and that shows in his league form in the current season as well, where he has netted 12 goals and boasts a further tally of three assists in 20 Ligue 1 outings this season, the North Londoners could do with that clinical presence upfront given their woes on the offensive side of things of late.

And given that the Lilywhites would be looking to replace Richarlison as they look to bring in a commendable backup to Dominic Solanke, and the Brazil international’s tendency to serve the sidelines on a consistent basis isn’t helping Spurs on any grounds, especially as they look to compete for silverware. And with Richy expected to depart, Jonathan David on a free transfer would be an ideal signing.
However, Spurs are not alone in the race to snap David’s signatures. Premier League heavyweights Manchester United have expressed interest as they look to bring in a new centre-forward under Ruben Amorim.
Premier League duo receive blow as Barca takes advantage

Yet, with United and Spurs interested, the player is said to have a preference to move to Spanish giants Barcelona and is said to be in advanced talks with the Catalans over a summer move, per Graeme Bailey of TBR Football.
It is to be seen how it goes, but this will come as a big blow for Levy and Tottenham, who have been vying for David’s signature for some time now.
