Postecoglou lauds Tottenham players in spite of Carabao Cup and FA Cup exits
After elimination from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup over the last week, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has come under tremendous pressure with a massive number of fans wanting him to be sacked. And while there are also a set of the masses wanting for him to stay, it is hard to forecast him in the role for much longer given their unsatisfactory results in the Premier League too.
Besides the manager, there has been heavy criticism of the Tottenham players as well, who have been accused of showing a lack of ambition on the pitch numerous times in the recent past. Postecoglou was asked about his dressing room in the aftermath of Tottenham’s defeat to Aston Villa and had the following to say regarding his group of players (h/t Eurosport).
“I think they’ve given everything they can and I’ve got so much respect and admiration for the players and how they’ve gone about that. We get a couple of midweeks off now, great for them to recover. We’ll get some players back which is also great for this group that they’ll get some help. And we move on.”

Tottenham’s attitude and tenacity have not been any different from the last few weeks with the players dropping their heads as soon as the opponent scores again them with no real leader existent on the pitch to drive them forward either. In the post-match interactions with the media as well, barely any senior player has come out and taken responsibility for winless results.

While Postecoglou as well as his limited set of players have had to work through an injury crisis and deserve due credit for doing so, it is not logical for any ‘admiration’ to go their way, especially with how things have unravelled over the past few months. Though injuries have been an excuse for the terrible results, the existing players have lacked nearly everything positive on the pitch.
