Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou could be on the verge of being sacked after his side was eliminated from the FA Cup on Sunday after a defeat to Aston Villa. A goal in either half for the home side scored by Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers was enough to decide the fourth round tie as Mathys Tel’s maiden Spurs goal proved to be only a consolation in second half stoppage time.

Postecoglou slams ‘agenda-driven’ sack calls as Aston Villa dump Tottenham out of the FA Cup
In spite of his position being more precarious than it ever has been, Postecoglou responded bullishly to calls regarding his firing by describing it as ‘agenda-driven stuff. The Standard quoted the 59-year-old saying the following.
“That’s just agenda-driven stuff. If it’s to get rid of me that’s fine. Good on ya. Go for it a million times. But in terms of this group of players, what they’ve given over the past two and half months has been outstanding, it’s a credit to him, I can’t speak highly enough of them.”
It’s absolutely understandable why Postecoglou remains confident in his continuity at the club after navigating through an unprecedented number of injuries. Moreover, the Europa League is still to be played for, so the Australian will still fancy his chances of keeping alive his record of winning silverware with clubs in his second seasons.
However, to claim that calls for his sacking are driven by an agenda could not be far from the truth because his predecessors have been sacked for achieving much more. Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino were relieved of their duties in spite of the team doing far better in the Premier League than it is right now, with the former’s dismissal sensationally happening before the 2021 EFL Cup final too.

Ultimately, the call over Postecoglou’s future lies with Daniel Levy, who will surely be tempted to pull the trigger on the Australian right away. Whether Spurs have replacements in their mind or not will be interesting to see, although the most predictable outcome for the immediate future would be for Ryan Mason to take charge in an interim role, as he has done a couple of times in the past.
