There is a need for a new midfielder at White Hart Lane, and the Lilywhites could be looking to make a statement signing given the possibility of Barcelona parting ways with star midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Ange Postecoglou has been thin on options in the middle of the park, and Daniel Levy will be looking to ensure that he replaces the veteran presence of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso at N17.
Tottenham Hotspur has been after the Dutch midfielder for a while now, with the former Ajax ace having ideal characteristics to succeed playing under Ange Postecoglou, given how the Australian head coach loves tenacity and dynamism in his all-out attack playing style.
Liverpool enter the race for De Jong

However, while Daniel Levy thinks about bringing De Jong to White Hart Lane, fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool have emerged as contenders to land the 27-year-old, per TodoFichajes via Fichajes.
Liverpool have been looking to add more physicality and passing ability in that midfield, and in Frenkie De Jong, they can get a player who can carry the ball while also placing pinpoint passes into the vertical runs of the forwards. And the Reds are said to be willing to offer around €35m to land the Dutch international.
While the above fees are way below any problems that Barcelona would consider for FDJ if the fees are anywhere near what the Merseysiders are willing to pay, then Tottenham (and Levy) should be all over the deal.
