It was another game, another domestic cup exit for Tottenham at the weekend. After squandering their 1-0 lead to lose 4-0 to Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie, the Lilywhites lost to Aston Villa at the weekend to cross another trophy off their checklist for the season.

“I always win my second season,” Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had said early in the season. It didn’t feel very reassuring at the moment, and it looks even less likely now. The Europa League is all that remains for Spurs for this campaign, and if we’re being honest we do not back them to win it given not just the competitors but also their own current state.

Here, we focus solely on the Premier League. With 14 games to go, Spurs are 10 points off the drop zone. We agree it is still very, very unlikely that they are sucked into a relegation fight, but as the old adage goes, stranger things have happened.

Spurs need a win or two to at least put the relegation noise to bed. Here, we take a look at how many points they manage from their remaining 14 games. For simplicity’s sake, we’re assuming they stick with Ange Postecoglou till the end of the season.

February 16 | Tottenham v Man United

The battle of the two Big Six strugglers, this one. Whichever side loses will only get sucked into the quagmire furthermore. United are just two points above Spurs in the table despite having changed their head coach earlier in the season. In many ways, these two sides’ fortunes have been similar this time around.

Tottenham beat United earlier in the season, while Erik ten Hag was still in charge. We believe both these sides have enough talent on paper at least to hurt each other, and this could end in a feisty draw.

Score: Spurs 1-1 Man United

February 22 | Ipswich v Tottenham

Ipswich beat Spurs earlier in the season, and while they look likely to go down this time round, the feeling around the club is not as dour as it is at Tottenham.

In 2023, Ipswich were playing League One football. With back-to-back promotions, their rise under Kieran McKenna has been staggering. The fact that they remain in the reckoning to not get relegated at all is a testament to their players and manager’s resolve.

They may have dispatched Coventry in their FA Cup game recently, but they have lost four games on the trot in the Premier League. The last time they faced Spurs, they came out close victors. For the next one, though, we back the Lilywhites to get the job done by a slim margin.

Score: Ipswich 1-2 Tottenham

February 27 | Tottenham v Man City

By their own very high standards, Man City have been underwhelming this season and were promptly dispatched by Tottenham earlier in the season. Now, however, their performances have become more fluctuating as draws and losses are now fluctuated by the odd win, while things have gotten worse for Spurs. We expect goals coming from both sides, but City should be able to take the three points.

Score: Spurs 2-3 Man City

March 9 | Tottenham v Bournemouth

Andoni Iraola is linked with the Spurs job in no small parts due to his side’s ability to tire big-name oppositions before tearing them to shreds. They should be able to pull apart Tottenham and deliver a bigger scoreline in this one than they had back in December.

Score: Spurs 0-3 Bournemouth

March 16 | Fulham v Tottenham

Like Iraola, Marco Silva is also linked to the Spurs gig and has been helping the Cottagers punch above their weight. We can see Fulham drawing against Postecoglou’s Tottenham, exactly as they did last time out.

Score: Fulham 1-1 Spurs

April 3 | Chelsea v Tottenham

Chelsea were remarkably in contention for the title when they faced Spurs early in December and won the feisty 3-4 encounter. Now, however, they have stumbled a bit, and while we expect them to bloody Spurs’ noses, we expect the latter to have enough in the tank to come away from Stamford Bridge with a point.

Score: Chelsea 2-2 Spurs

More than pride will be at stake when Tottenham face Chelsea.

April 5 | Tottenham v Southampton

It was the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham in the middle of December that sealed Russell Martin‘s fate. However, his successor, Ivan Jurić, has not been doing much better either and may very well not be the Saints manager by the time this fixture comes around.

In any case, Southampton are on track for going down in Premier League history as one of the worst sides of all time this season. We cannot see them stopping the Spurs’ attack.

Score: Spurs 3-0 Southampton

April 12 | Wolves v Tottenham

Wolves remain firmly in the relegation battle, but Vítor Pereira has shown enough fight to give the fans at Molineux some hope and instil a sense of confidence in their defence. By April, Wolves will have become more feral, keen on snatching any and all points, and we expect them to be able to keep Spurs at bay.

Score: Wolves 0-0 Spurs

April 19 | Tottenham v Nottingham Forest

It has been quite the redemption arc for Nuno Espírito Santo this season, as he has come back from Saudi Arabia after his dismissal from Tottenham and now stands on the brink of delivering Forest Champions League football. Even if the Tricky Trees do no manage to secure a top-five finish, we expect them to have enough in the tank for this campaign to make Europe for next term. They will have enough to keep Spurs at bay.

Score: Spurs 0-2 Forest

April 26 | Liverpool v Tottenham

Given the pace at which they’re going at the moment, Liverpool may very well be champions-elect by this fixture. Though, given their own schedule and Arsenal’s doggedness, we expect the title fight to at least remain a mathematical possibility at this point.

That said, Liverpool will have enough in the tank for a so-called professional job to get all three points at home against Spurs, especially if the two’s recent Anfield encounter is anything to go by.

May 3 | West Ham v Tottenham

Under Graham Potter, West Ham have shown enough to ease relegation worries and hint towards gradual growth as the players gel together and become better ahead of mounting a proper push up the league table next season.

This is very likely to be Spurs’ first encounter in which they find a team that are “already at the beach”. Still, this is a local derby, and the Hammers will not shy away from a fight, though we back Spurs for a point here.

Score: West Ham 1-1 Spurs

May 10 | Tottenham v Crystal Palace

Another London encounter where Spurs are likely to find a side with little left to play for in the season barring pride. This is the kind of game that will have little long-term matters at stake for either side, but Palace under Oliver Glasner do tend to show bite when you least expect them.

Score: Spurs 1-1 Palace

May 18 | Aston Villa v Tottenham

Understandably, this has not been as great a season in the Premier League for the Villans as it was last season, though they are in the last 16 of the Champions League and just four points off top five. They will remain in the hunt for European football at the very least by this point, and we expect them to pull off as professional a job against Spurs as they did this weekend gone by.

Score: Aston Villa 2-1 Spurs

May 25 | Tottenham v Brighton

Another fixture with little left to play for. Brighton may have a slight shot at Europe coming into this fixture, but in all likelihood both teams will be firmly mid-table at this point, though Spurs will want to put on an admirable final show for the home fans for the season.

Score: Spurs 3-1 Brighton
