Tottenham are interested in signing Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen
Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a productive winter transfer window, welcoming four new faces to Ange Postecoglou’s roster. Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso, Mathys Tel and Yang Min-hyeok arrived at White Hart Lane, although the latter’s signing from South Korean club Gangwon FC was agreed as early as last summer.
Spurs have been thin on options in central defence owing to injuries to first-choice pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Radu Dragusin’s season is over after sustaining an ACL injury last month, while Ben Davies is out of contract at the end of the season. Thus, club chairman Daniel Levy will be looking to ensure the Spurs boss will have sufficient defensive options to start the 2025/26 season.
Tottenham have been linked with a number of defenders over recent months, including Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen. Signed from Juventus last summer, Dean Huijsen has been enjoying a terrific debut season at Bournemouth. The young Dutchman has established a strong partnership with Illia Zabarnyi at the heart of the Cherries’ defence, helping Andoni Iraola’s side push for a European spot.

The teenager has racked up 18 Premier League appearances thus far, netting two goals—including a header in Bournemouth’s 1-0 win over Spurs in December. Huijsen’s performances have piqued the interest of several clubs including Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Given the growing interest, CaughtOffside reports the Cherries want to increase the defender’s release clause. Huijsen’s current release clause is set in the region of £50 million, but the South Coast club want him to sign a new contract so they can increase the value of the clause. No talks have occurred between the club and the 19-year-old’s representatives thus far, though.
It looks like Bournemouth will find it difficult to keep hold of Huijsen for far too long, considering the amount of interest he has garnered since moving to England. The Spain Under-21 international has proven his quality in the Premier League in a short time, and at just 19, it is clear he has a high ceiling in the game.

A talent like Huijsen fits the billing perfectly at Tottenham. The Lilywhites definitely must bolster their defensive ranks further after Danso’s addition earlier this month, and the Bournemouth starlet would be a superb long-term acquisition. Strong in the air, tenacious in the challenge and composed in possession, the ex-Juventus man could complement Van de Ven well for many years if a move to N17 materialises.
However, the Spurs chiefs would hope that Huijsen doesn’t agree to a new deal at the Vitality Stadium, which will increase his release clause.
