Tottenham eye Scandinavian star compared to Lionel Messi; Chelsea also keen

Tottenham are monitoring the situation of Roony Bardghji at FC Copenhagen

Tottenham Hotspur were one of the busiest Premier League clubs during the January transfer window, welcoming three signings – Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso, and Mathys Tel to boost their injury-hit squad. They also bolstered their academy ranks with a couple of additions on deadline day.

Spurs have found it difficult to stitch positive results in the Premier League and currently lie 14th in the table. They have won just three of their last seven games across all competitions whilst being eliminated from the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in a span of just four days.

In the wake of their poor season, the Hotspur Way chiefs have seemingly started planning for the summer transfer window. With Timo Werner’s loan deal unlikely to be turned permanent, Richarlison extremely injury-prone and Son Heung-min entering the twilight of his career, a forward is expected to be targeted when the transfer window reopens.

According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham are among a host of clubs keeping tabs on the situation of FC Copenhagen winger Roony Bardghji.

Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea are showing the strongest interest in the player, while the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Brighton and Hove Albion are all very much in contention. The teenager’s sensational rise at FC Copenhagen has also caught the attention of plenty of European clubs including Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Having come up the youth ranks at FC Copenhagen, Roony Bardghji got promoted to the first team back in 2022 and has only gone from strength to strength over the years. Considered one of the brightest talents across the continent, he has been dubbed “the Swedish Messi” due to his playing style, technique, movement and flair.

The 19-year-old’s contract at the Danish giants is expiring at the end of December 2025 (Transfermarkt) and clubs looking to land him would try to agree with FC Copenhagen rather than wait until January. One caveat in signing Bardghji would be that he has not played a single minute this season after suffering a cruciate ligament tear last summer, though, he has recently returned to training.

During the 2023/24 season, the right-winger had netted 11 times in 37 games across all competitions. Despite not playing a single minute this season due to a serious injury, the amount of clubs vying for his signature speak volumes about Bardghji’s talent and potential.

He has the tools to thrive in Ange Postecoglou’s system at Spurs, whilst covering and competing with Brennan Johnson. Tottenham have focused on signing young talents across Europe in recent years, and Bardghji could be another sensational long-term investment—provided he manages to keep himself fit.
