Tottenham could rekindle efforts to land former Chelsea star in the summer transfer window

Date:

Tottenham could revive their interest in AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur managed to strengthen their squad in the past January transfer window with the additions of Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel.

Injuries have plagued the squad and Ange Postecoglou has missed key players for over three months. So, to get three first-team players in a tricky January transfer window was a big bonus for Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs’ defensive unit have been hit the hardest, with first-choice centre-back pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven still unavailable. Radu Dragusin’s season is over following an ACL injury, which makes the acquisition of Danso on loan from RC Lens a crucial one. However, before signing Danso, the Lilywhites were interested in one defender from Serie A.

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori snubbed an opportunity to join Spurs in the winter transfer window

Tottenham were keen on signing Fikayo Tomori and were in advanced negotiations with AC Milan. In fact, a deal was almost agreed between Spurs and Milan, but the centre-back snubbed the opportunity to return to the Premier League during the past transfer window.

Now, according to a report from Milan Live, the North London outfit could attempt to sign Fikayo Tomori in the summer.

Tomori has performed well for Milan since joining from Chelsea in January 2021, racking up 167 appearances across all competitions thus far. The England international’s performances may have been slightly inconsistent this season but one cannot deny the fact that he is overall a reliable defender.

Big Ange wanted Fikayo Tomori before settling for Kevin Danso on loan

The Calgary-born talent is a Premier League-proven commodity, and after his Serie A adventure, he could be tempted to return to England. The 27-year-old has the required tools to succeed in Ange Postecoglou’s high defensive line. He is a quality centre-back and would go some way in solving Spurs’ defensive woes.

However, given that Tomori rejected the opportunity to join Big Ange’s forces earlier this year, it would take some effort from the Hotspur Way bosses to convince him of the exciting project at White Hart Lane. The ex-Chelsea man is enjoying life in Italy, competing in big derbies and playing in the Champions League, so he doesn’t necessarily have an immediate need to leave Milan unless game time dries up under manager Sergio Conceicao.

That being said, Tottenham must continue monitoring the developments around Tomori at Milan until the end of the season before deciding whether or not to go for the offensive in the summer.
