Tottenham handed a boost in their pursuit of Liam Delap.

With the winter transfer window now closed, Tottenham Hotspur and the chiefs at Hotspur Way will shift their focus to the upcoming summer window, mapping out key targets to strengthen the squad. One player who could be on Daniel Levy’s shortlist to bolster the roster at N17 is Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

Daniel Levy will be looking to bring in a new striker in the summer.

Delap has been in impressive form this season, catching the attention of several Premier League heavyweights beyond Tottenham, with Arsenal and Chelsea also monitoring his progress.

The Manchester City academy graduate has showcased his qualities, combining physical presence up front with impressive speed and youthful potential—though still somewhat raw—which makes him an enticing prospect for top clubs.

However, Manchester City still retain control over the 19-year-old’s future, which could add further twists and turns to any potential transfer this summer.

City unlikely to go for Delap

Manchester City to move away from resigning Liam Delap?

Though in what will come as a massive relief for the London trio, the defending Premier League champions are unlikely to activate any buy-back clause that they inserted when they originally sold Delap to the Tractor Boys, per senior transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider.

Man City were highly active in the January transfer window, with Pep Guardiola bringing in Omar Marmoush, Nico González, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov, signalling a shift in strategy at the Etihad, with a strong focus on investing in the future. While they have the option to bring Delap back, they are expected to stay clear of such a move for now.

For Tottenham, however, securing Delap’s signature won’t be straightforward. With the club currently far from securing Champions League qualification, Daniel Levy will have to put in serious effort to convince the young striker that North London is the right destination for his next step.

While Manchester City’s reluctance to activate their buy-back clause gives Tottenham a clearer path to signing Delap, the real challenge lies in convincing the young striker to choose North London over other suitors. With Arsenal and Chelsea also in the mix, Spurs must present a compelling case, whether it’s guaranteed game time, a key role in Postecoglou’s long-term project, or a financial package that competes with their rivals. Without the allure of Champions League football, Tottenham will need to rely on other selling points to win the race for his signature.

Moreover, Delap’s potential arrival would raise important questions about how he fits into Tottenham’s current squad. Would he serve as an understudy to Dominic Solanke, or could he be viewed as a long-term solution in attack? Spurs have struggled with attacking depth in recent seasons, and securing a promising young striker like Delap could be a step in the right direction. However, with strong competition from other clubs, Levy will need to act decisively if he hopes to bring the Ipswich star to White Hart Lane.
