Cristian Romero is still not available for Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur’s injury problems have been well documented this season with key players having missed large chunks to date.
Persistent injuries have derailed Ange Postecoglou’s second season in North London, with the team currently lying 14th in the Premier League. However, the situation is improving, with positive news on the fitness of several key players.
The Spurs boss has confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Destiny Udogie are all in contention for the clash against Manchester United at home on Sunday. Wingers Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert have all returned to training earlier this week as well.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou also gave an update on the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke and Richarlison.
“Micky, Cuti and Dom, again, we’re looking at the next two or three weeks for them. They’re going well,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match presser on Saturday afternoon.
“I guess with Micky, we decided to take a different strategy with him. We just want to make sure he’s absolutely right… talking to different people, he’s working with different medical teams and rehab staff to make sure he’s right. He’s working well and feeling good, which is a positive.
“Similar with Cuti. We’re just waiting… the healing in his quad is taking longer than we thought. He’s got one more scan to make sure it’s healed properly. Once we get that sign off, we should be good to go.”
On Friday, it was reported that Van de Ven was set to miss the game against Man United. The Dutch centre-back has not featured since playing in the first half of the 3-0 win against Swedish side IF Elfsborg in the Europa League last month. And now, it has been officially confirmed that he and his centre-back partner Cristian Romero are set to return to action in the next two or three weeks.

Both Romero and Van de Ven have undoubtedly been Tottenham’s biggest misses this campaign. Their lack of availability have seen Big Ange’s defence being torn apart to shreds. Tottenham have leaked goals for fun, with the Greek-Aussie boss forced to use teenage midfielder Archie Gray in central defence.
Being the team’s defensive lynchpin, Romero would be gutted to have not contributed much to the team’s cause. The 2022 World Cup winner has been sidelined for well over two months due to a quad injury. Before that, he also sustained an ankle and toe issue. This has also resulted in the Argentinean defender missing 25 games so far in an injury-ravaged season for the Lilywhites.

However, with the majority of the injured players returning from injury, the expectation will be from Spurs to beat an average Man United side on Sunday and build the momentum from there on. We have had the better of the Red Devils in recent clashes, having beaten them twice—away at Old Trafford in the league and the Carabao Cup quarter-final at home.
So, there is no better chance to complete a treble of victories over them and the returning players should undoubtedly be of big boost to Big Ange.
