Premier League trio registers €60m interest in Tottenham target Marc Guehi

The defensive acumen at White Hart Lane has been brutally tested in the ongoing campaign, with Ange Postecoglou having to deal with a lot of injury concerns during the season, and the Australian head coach had to deploy makeshift players in the position given the lack of depth and quality at his disposal.

The North Londoners did try to dip into the winter transfer market to bring in a new centre-back for the roster, and while Daniel Levy pursued a move for multiple players in January, he ended up bringing in Kevin Danso on a loan-to-buy deal from Lens as the Lilywhites beat competition from fellow Premier League rivals Wolves to his signature.

Deadline day drama: Spurs’ near miss for Marc Guehi

Spurs’ £70m offer for Marc Guehi rejected: Will Levy make another move?

While the chiefs at Hotspur Way ended up bringing in Danso, there was a moment of madness on deadline day that got everyone talking. Spurs had made a mega £70m offer to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who has been the subject of speculation with links away from Selhurst Park. The bid was rejected as soon as it was tabled, the reasons spelt beyond the transfer fee concern. The fact that the Eagles had too little time to identify a replacement meant that Levy had to look elsewhere.

But this is not expected to be the end of Tottenham’s pursuit of the England international. To build on their interest in his signatures from winter, Spurs are expected to be right in the centre of speculation for a move involving Guehi.

Premier League elites are watching, but will Palace sell?

However, that being said, Tottenham aren’t alone, as the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea have all shown strong interest in signing Guehi, with a €60 million (£50 million) offer already placed on the table for the 24-year-old, according to the latest report by Fichajes, and now the question is, will Palace be open to sanctioning a move for their key defender given the progress that they have made under Glasner?

We have seen the Eagles show a huge amount of defensive resilience this season and compile that with fast and yet exquisite attacks that combine tactical positioning and individual ability to beat the first man in their space (be it physically, technically, or with PnP), and losing a player of Guehi’s calibre could throw disorder into their defensive line. But that being said, he’d bring in a sense of huge financial benefits if a sale were to happen, especially if Palace can find a suitable replacement in the summer.

For Tottenham, it would also be a huge headline signing that would show the belief in the project that Levy is overseeing at White Hart Lane and also a move that should go on to be a cement filling in what now is a faltering defence at White Hart Lane.
