Guglielmo Vicario returned from a long-term injury on Sunday and helped Tottenham beat Man United 1-0
Tottenham Hotspur were full value for all three points on Sunday when they beat Manchester United 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, courtesy of a first-half strike from James Maddison.
Spurs played with a sense of togetherness, desire and spirit that has been missing in recent weeks. They were far from perfect, but eventually got over the line and did not crack under late pressure from Manchester United. These are signs that things perhaps are finally improving under Ange Postecoglou, who attracted a lot of criticism after back-to-back elimination from domestic cup competitions earlier this month.
The return of some key stars from injury on Sunday straightaway had an impact on the team’s performance. One of those to produce a strong display was Guglielmo Vicario. The Spurs No.1 was delighted to pick up a clean sheet against Man United in his first game back for the club over the weekend.

The 28-year-old had not featured for Tottenham since fracturing his ankle during a 4-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium back in November. The Italian revealed at the time that he had played for around an hour with a broken bone in his foot.
Despite being on the sidelines for more than two months with a fractured foot, Guglielmo Vicario was thrown at the deep end against Man United and he starred by keeping a clean sheet. He made early saves to deny Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, before denying the latter twice in the second half.
After the win on Sunday, Vicario expressed his delight to return to full fitness and wants Tottenham to keep up the winning momentum.
“Now, we recover, it’s a big three points, and now it’s on us – it’s on us to keep this momentum, it’s on us to keep this feeling and not let it go away. For me, especially, it is my first game after the injury, so it’s big pride I will take for myself and share with my family. I’m very happy,” Vicario told the club’s official website.

The Lilywhites have been severely unfortunate when it comes to injuries, losing key players at regular intervals to disrupt Ange Postecoglou’s second season at White Hart Lane. Vicario was one of them and his inclusion in the XI made a huge difference in the 1-0 win over Ruben Amorim’s side. He exuded confidence with his distribution while commanding his box well.

All in all, Tottenham’s triumph over United at home was down to a collective team effort, with the Italy international playing a big role. Now the hope will be for Vicario to maintain his fitness and produce consistent performances in between the sticks for Spurs.
