Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing an audacious summer move for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jamie Gittens
Tottenham Hotspur’s attacking unit has been brutally tested in the ongoing campaign, with Ange Postecoglou having to deal with a lot of injury concerns during the season.
The Greek-Australian head coach had to be creative when selecting players in attacking positions, given how stretched resources became before a few forwards returned on Sunday in the 1-0 win over Manchester United.
The North Londoners did try to dip into the winter transfer market to bring in a new forward for the roster, and while Daniel Levy pursued a move for multiple players in January, he ended up bringing in Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy in the summer. They had to beat competition from fellow Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal for Tel’s signature.

With the way Spurs’ season have gone, it is not surprising that the Hotspur Way chiefs are planning a squad revamp in the summer. The attacking unit is expected to be particularly overhauled, with the likes of Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Timo Werner reportedly set to be moved on. If that happens, it’d be imperative for the club to make a marquee signing in forward positions.
According to a report from The Sun, Tottenham are planning an audacious £80m transfer swoop for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jamie Gittens, but face competition from a host of elite European clubs. Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are also tracking the English winger.
Jamie Gittens, who joined Borussia Dortmund’s academy from Manchester City in 2020, is under contract until June 2028. Regarded as one of the hottest young prospects across Europe, the left-side winger’s stock has only been enhanced this season following 11 goals and five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions. He has five goal involvements in the Champions League too.

However, the 20-year-old has not scored in eight games though as the Yellow and Black have dropped to 11th in the Bundesliga table, winning just one from their last seven league fixtures. Should they miss out on Champions League qualification, the aforementioned report adds that the Bundesliga side would be forced to cash in on Gittens.

Losing a player of Gittens’ talent and potential would significantly weaken Dortmund’s attacking unit. But that being said, he’d bring in a sense of huge financial benefits if a sale were to happen, especially if Dortmund can find a suitable replacement in the summer.
For Tottenham, it would be a huge headline signing that would show the belief in the project that Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou are overseeing at White Hart Lane, and also a move that should go a long way to replacing Son in the long run.
