Ange Postecoglou’s job at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be safe until the end of the season
Tottenham Hotspur have endured a disappointing Premier League season so far, winning just nine of their 25 games and sitting 12th in the table heading into Saturday’s away game at Ipswich Town.
Before winning 1-0 against Manchester United on Sunday, Spurs crashed out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup which intensified the pressure on Ange Postecoglou. Despite back-to-back league wins over Brentford and Manchester United, speculation over the Greek-Australian tactician’s future at N17 remains rife.
While the recent Premier League wins may have given the team some much-needed lift and confidence, the fact that Ange Postecoglou has been underperforming hasn’t changed. An unprecedented injury situation has been one of the prime reasons for the Lilywhites’ lack of progress this season.

Ange Postecoglou remains supported at the club, with the board considering a severe injury crisis that left players in double digits unavailable for large chunks of the campaign. And The Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick has dropped the latest update on the 59-year-old’s future, citing that the Tottenham tactician is perhaps safe until the end of this season, at least.
“Well, look, the noises from the club throughout this kind of awful winter have been that Postecoglou is safe, he’s got the full support of the board, and that they understand the injury crisis as the biggest reason for results. And that’s been borne out in the fact that he’s still in the job, frankly. I think it is fair to say that the landscape for managers has not been great,” Dan Kilpatrick said on the Rule the Roost Podcast.
“It’s not as if there’s been an obvious alternative out there, and maybe the situation would be different if there had been several free agents on the market who could play progressive football and wanted the job. That’s a counterfactual we just don’t know. So Postecoglou is obviously safe for now.
“He’s probably safe until the end of the season, to be honest, because again, there’s just no one Spurs could get mid-season.”
Big Ange has had a really difficult second season at the helm at Tottenham. He has had to deal with more injuries than any other club in the Premier League. The ex-Celtic manager has missed key players for large parts of the campaign, affecting the team’s routines, development and morale. This is the biggest reason why the Lilywhites are languishing in 12th spot in the table.

There were reports of Spurs sacking Postecoglou had he lost against Man United last weekend and replacing him with Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi. The club view Inzaghi as a great option and Daniel Levy is keen to bring him to White Hart Lane for next season if Postecoglou is shown the door.
However, Tottenham won against Man United to provide some immediate relief to Big Ange. Also, if we are to believe in Kilpatrick’s words, it is good to see the board is backing the Australian to turn the fortunes around.
With several key players returning last weekend and a couple of them soon to follow suit, there is a great opportunity for Big Ange and Co. to build some momentum.
