Tottenham are expected to be in the market for attacking reinforcements if they part ways with senior forwards
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a few strikers from Serie A football. One of those has been Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram.
Spurs have identified Thuram as a priority to fill the void left by the legendary Harry Kane in the summer of 2023. Since he arrived at Inter on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2023, the Frenchman’s game has gone onto another level under Simone Inzaghi’s leadership. The forward was among the chief contributors towards Inter’s Scudetto-winning 2023/24 campaign, where he netted 13 goals and supplied as many assists in 35 league games.
Inter are in no rush to sell Thuram as he is contracted until 2028 (Transfermarkt). If any suitor shows concrete interest in him, they would demand at least €80 million. However, Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham wants the North London outfit to sign Thuram’s Inter teammate, Lautaro Martinez, instead.

“Inter signed Thuram on a free,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Now they want to shift him for almost £70million just two years later, no chance. I don’t see why Tottenham, who missed the opportunity to sign him for free, would now pay that kind of money.
“Also, if you’re going to go and sign a player from Inter Milan, there are players who I’d much rather see signed, such as Martínez.”
Lautaro Martinez has developed into one of Europe’s most prolific and complete strikers in recent years. The Argentinean centre-forward enjoyed a golden 2023/24 season, netting 24 goals in 33 league outings to guide Inzaghi’s Inter to the Scudetto.

However, the 2022 World Cup winner has occasionally been dogged by accusations of inconsistency. The 27-year-old has gone through goal droughts, and at times struggled to make an impact in big games—like he recently did in the 1-0 defeat to Juventus. Martinez has not been as prolific as he was last season, netting only nine times in 23 Serie A games this term.
Nonetheless, Martinez remains a top striker and would undoubtedly enhance Tottenham’s attacking ranks. With Spurs planning to move on Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Timo Werner at the end of the season, the coach would be left with Dominic Solanke as the only premium goalscorer in the squad. Even if the club bosses decide to make Mathys Tel’s loan move permanent from Bayern Munich, the Lilywhites have to replace the aforementioned trio if they depart sufficiently.

Martinez and Thuram are good players, though, the latter’s profile would be a good fit at Spurs due to his versatility. Both of them are going to cost a premium, and if it comes down to selecting one, Daniel Levy must go for Thuram instead of Martinez.
