Postecoglou emerges as contender for Man City job
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou suddenly looks safe in his role following the win over Manchester United last week but his position continues to remain precarious. The team’s progress in the Europa League will undoubtedly determine his continuity, or the lack of it, in north London although an immediate decision might not be made.
Postecoglou is likely to stay at the club at least until the end of the season, following which there is likely to be a conversation between the board and the manager regarding where they stand ahead of 2025/26. Tottenham Hotspur News has claimed that with his future at Spurs under the scanner, the 59-year-old has emerged as a contender to take over at Manchester City.

After City’s recent Champions League elimination, Pep Guardiola’s role at the Etihad Stadium has become a subject of scrutiny and though the Spaniard is expected to continue, Xabi Alonso and Postecoglou are rated at 6/1 and 10/1 to replace him, respectively. Guardiola is unexpected to get the sack but him stepping down after one of his worst seasons as a manager is not ruled out.
Xabi Alonso has attracted interest from Real Madrid as well in the event of Carlo Ancelotti’s departure at the end of the season, so City will have to see off some stern competition if they are to land him. The Bayer Leverkusen coach, however, might be inclined towards an opportunity in his homeland and with one of his former clubs ahead of the Citizens.
Postecoglou would be a superb addition for them as he would receive the support from the board which has eluded him at Spurs. Moreover, he might also consider remaining in England after a turbulent time at Tottenham, which is likely to end without any domestic accolades to his name with links to the Etihad Stadium potentially heating up if indeed the Lilywhites fire him.
