Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou drops the latest injury update on defender Cristian Romero
After a full week’s rest, Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Saturday as they travel to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town.
The Lilywhites beat Manchester United 1-0 at home last Sunday to climb to 12th in the table. It was the perfect response after back-to-back eliminations from domestic cup competitions. James Maddison marked his return from injury with a first-half goal which turned out to be the winner eventually against Ruben Amorim’s side.
Including Maddison, Ange Postecoglou witnessed five players returning from injuries last weekend. The others were Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson and Destiny Udogie. Apart from Udogie, all of them played against Man United and got valuable minutes under their tanks.

While the injury list have considerably shrunk, Tottenham still have some key players in the treatment room. Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, and Dominic Solanke are all expected to be out for a couple more weeks.
Cristian Romero, in particular, has been sidelined for a long time at Tottenham, leaving fans concerned about his return to the pitch, as his presence has certainly been missed. The Argentinean defender has been out since December, having suffered a quad injury in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea at home.
The 26-year-old was about to get a scan on his injury last week, as Postecoglou had revealed. During the pre-match duties on Friday afternoon, the Tottenham boss was asked to elaborate on Romero undergoing scans and his current injury status. He stated (h/t Football London):
“Yeah, he’s had that and it’s going well. He’s in a good place. So, like I said, with him and Micky, it’s just picking our moment now. I’m really keen to get them back and have him back for the rest of the year.
“We’ve got a really good sort of period coming up where I think we can manage that where they’re back, they’ve had good weeks of training with us, so that when they do come back in, they’re in a good place. So, yeah, he’s still going well.”

Big Ange’s latest update on Romero is encouraging, one that gives hope that his return from injury is indeed close. The 2022 World Cup winner is working hard to regain full fitness and join the rest of the group, having now missed action for more than two months.
Tottenham’s defensive lynchpin, the South American’s absence has certainly made a difference. without Romero and Van de Ven, along with goalkeeper Vicario in the past couple of months, Spurs have leaked goals for fun. Going by Big Ange’s latest admission, Romero is eyeing a return next month for the North London side’s Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar on 6 March.
