Wilson Odobert was one of the five Tottenham players that returned from injuries against Manchester United
In the past six months, Tottenham Hotspur has been competing on all four fronts. Ange Postecoglou’s side have featured in the Premier League, Europa League, Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
They went all the way to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup before being dumped out by Liverpool earlier this month. The Lilywhites are also out of the FA Cup, having lost 2-1 to Aston Villa away in the fourth round. Ultimately, the rigours of playing in four competitions took its toll on Ange Postecoglou’s squad as several players picked up injuries.
Over the last three months, the Greek-Aussie tactician has had to be without several key players. At some point in the campaign, the injury toll reached double figures. However, as many as five players returned from injury last weekend against Manchester United. And one of them was Wilson Odobert.

Tottenham signed Wilson Odobert from Championship side Burnley last summer. The Hotspur Way chiefs pulled off the deal out of nowhere, much to every fan’s surprise. They have been supposedly keeping tabs on the sprightly winger and pounced on him sensing an opportunity.
The French teenager started his White Hart Lane career well and had clocked six appearances before suffering a hamstring injury back in September. He underwent surgery on his hamstring problem in October, and after missing 27 games, Odobert made a cameo appearance in the 1-0 win over United at home.
Following his return from injury after almost four months, Ange Postecoglou cannot contain his excitement. The Tottenham gaffer has also predicted that Odobert will have a ‘real big impact’ next season.
“His absence (Odobert’s) was disappointing because I am genuinely excited about Wilson’s potential as a footballer. He’s got really unique qualities that are exciting to see how they develop,” Postecoglou told Football London.
“And particularly to the way we want to play. He’s the one player that is a bit different to the others in terms of our attacking players. The dribbling capacity that he has, it’s hard to find. And he has that and enjoys that part of the game. He was a new signing but we haven’t really seen him yet. But with him, there’s still an opportunity there to make an impact this year.
“We’ll be careful with him in terms of how we reintegrate him, but there’s a good chunk of the season there with some important games so hopefully he finishes the season strong and then next year I think he’ll make a real big impact, not just with us but in the league.”

With Odobert only 20 and having been out for a long time, how he adapts to the fast-paced nature of Premier League football remains the big question mark surrounding the highly-rated winger. The Hotspur Way chiefs believe Odobert is a brilliant young prospect, which prompted them to go all out of their way to bag his signature last year.

The French youth international, who played a key role in pushing Mathys Tel to join Spurs on loan earlier this month, will now be eased back into the team by Big Ange and his coaches. With Tottenham in desperate need of a spark, all eyes will be on the Meaux-born talent to see whether he can regain his full fitness and make an impact.
As Timo Werner and Richarlison are injured, and Son Heung-min is struggling to impact games, we won’t be surprised at all if our gaffer starts Odobert ahead of Son in the upcoming games.
