Tottenham could revisit move for Ademola Lookman in the summer after recent developments at Atalanta
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a host of talents across Europe in recent transfer windows. One of those players is Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.
Spurs sent scouts to watch Ademola Lookman in action against Arsenal in the Champions League in Bergamo back in September 2024. They did not follow up their scouting mission with an offer or a bid in the past January transfer window, instead, the Hotspur Way chiefs signed teenage prodigy Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich.
Now, after missing a crucial penalty as Atalanta were knocked out of the Champions League by Club Brugge on Tuesday – Lookman has confessed his unhappiness with comments made by his boss, Gian Piero Gasperini, who called him “one of the worst penalty takers” he has ever seen in the aftermath of the game.

The Nigerian international has seen his Atalanta future turn upside down in recent days, with Gasperini’s public criticism potentially opening the door to a return to the Premier League. According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham could look to reignite their interest in Lookman when the transfer window reopens.
Lookman has cemented himself as one of Serie A’s best attackers over the last few campaigns. The London-born talent scored a hat trick, as La Dea won last year’s Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. With 10 goals and five assists in 19 league games, the African speedster has helped Gasperini’s side emerge as an unlikely title challenger this season.
Having failed to cut the mustard in the Premier League during his spells with Everton, Fulham and Leicester City, Lookman has done well to build his career in Serie A. However, following his relationship with Gasperini souring after the penalty incident in the Champions League, Tottenham must take advantage of the situation and go for the attacker.

Given Timo Werner’s loan move from RB Leipzig is unlikely to be turned permanent, Richarlison’s future is up in the air owing to his fitness concerns and Son Heung-min’s powers visibly declining, Spurs need to invest in a marquee forward signing in the summer.

And Lookman could be that player as he fits the bill under Ange Postecoglou as a versatile forward. The Nigerian has come a long way from his failed stints in the Premier League, and now at 27, he is a mature and experienced campaigner perhaps waiting for a chance to go back to England and prove himself. A player of the ex-RB Leipzig man’s quality and European experience would be an asset for Tottenham if they manage to land him ahead of 2025/26 season.
Rated at around €60million, Spurs must be all over his signature.
