Arsenal threaten to derail Tottenham pursuit of Serie A attacker

Tottenham-linked Fiorentina striker Moise Kean emerges as a transfer target for Arsenal

Tottenham target Moise Kean is now also wanted by arch-rivals Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur had a productive January transfer window, bringing in three players to bolster an injury-ravaged Ange Postecoglou’s squad. After signing young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky at the start of January, it took them until the final days of the transfer window to sign Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel.

The Lilywhites, however, are not satisfied with Tel’s acquisition and want to sign a forward in the summer. This is because the Hotspur Way chiefs are continuing to get frustrated about the lack of availability of Richarlison, while Son Heung-min’s powers appear to be on the decline. In addition, the North Londoners are unlikely to sign Timo Werner permanently from RB Leipzig at the end of the season.

Thus, Spurs are interested in recruiting a forward and have reportedly held internal discussions about Fiorentina striker Moise Kean. The Italy international previously had an unsuccessful spell at Everton, scoring only two goals in 32 Premier League appearances. But since moving to Fiorentina from Juventus last summer, he has been simply on fire.

Moise Kean has netted 15 goals in 23 Serie A appearances in his first season in Florence thus far, and Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy is looking to take advantage of this purple patch of form as he looks to make a move for the striker in the summer.

However, Spurs are not the only club interested in the Fiorentina striker’s signature. According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Arsenal have joined the race for Kean, who has a release clause in the excess of €50m in his contract this summer. Aston Villa are also interested in the player.

This will come as a massive blow for Tottenham. At 24, Kean does suit Daniel Levy’s transfer policy of late, and he fits the profile of a player who can perform well in Ange Postecoglou’s system at White Hart Lane. The Australian would love a quick and clinical striker who can cover and compete with club-record acquisition Dominic Solanke next season.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have entered the race for Moise Kean

For the North Londoners, it is crucial to ensure that they have enough quality and depth in all the areas of the pitch to compete for trophies. Our bitterest rivals, Arsenal are a set team under Mikel Arteta, trying to win the Premier League in recent seasons. They have come closer in the last two years and remain in the hunt to break their long Premier League title drought this term.

Given the Gunners are likely to qualify for the Champions League again and their growing project under Arteta, it is not rocket science to understand that they would be favourites to land Kean if he decides to leave Fiorentina after just one season.

Thus, the least Spurs could do is win the Europa League and subsequently qualify for the Champions League next term to give themselves a chance to go toe-to-toe with Arsenal for Kean’s signature.
