Tottenham Hotspur Transfers 2024/25

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Danso was colossal in the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road

Tottenham Hotspur avenged November’s league defeat at home by thrashing Ipswich Town 4-1 at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs were not great from the off, though, they raced into a two-goal lead thanks to a Brennan Johnson double. Omari Hutchinson halved the deficit by the interval, leaving work to do for Ange Postecoglou and Co. in the next 45 minutes. And the players did what was asked of them.

Djed Spence restored the Lilywhites’ two-goal cushion in the 77th minute after good work from substitute James Maddison before Dejan Kulusevski sealed the deal in the 84th minute by hammering home. The result saw Tottenham register three Premier League wins on the spin for the first time this season, consolidating their 12th spot in the table.

Defensive duo Kevin Danso and Archie Gray enjoyed a fantastic outing for Spurs, dominating the game against Ipswich Town. Despite failing to keep a clean sheet, Postecoglou’s side secured an outstanding 4-1 victory in East Angelia.

Kevin Danso was fantastic in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town

Kevin Danso, signed on loan from RC Lens during the January transfer window, was outstanding on Saturday. The 26-year-old was immense in Spurs’ 1-0 win over Manchester United last weekend and followed it up with another commanding display at the back, keeping Liam Delap at bay for large periods of the game.

Facing the media for his post-match duties, Postecoglou was asked about Danso’s performance against Kieran McKenna’s side. The Tottenham boss praised the Austrian’s rough and tough display, stating that he has been a “super addition” to his roster.

“I think he [Danso] enjoys the whacks. He’s been great for us since he came in. He’s really taken to the club, taken to the group of players, taken on the challenge. It’s not easy when you’re coming into a new club, and we’re asking him to come in and almost be a senior member. We still had three teenagers out there starting today, and a fourth coming on. It’s still a really young team. I think Kevin’s been a super addition for us,” Postecoglou told Football London.

Big Ange has been delighted with Kevin Danso’s strong start to life at Tottenham

The defence has been Tottenham’s weakest position this season. Without first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, along with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, for more than two months, the North Londoners have leaked goals at an alarming rate.

Big Ange needed a quality back-up to Romero and Van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin was expected to step up in their injury absences. However, Dragusin did not particularly fill the gaffer and the fans with confidence. Interestingly, Danso is proving to be that player.

Strong in the air, tenacious in the challenge and quick through the ground with good composure on the ball, Danso is proving to be a smart fit to play in Big Ange’s high defensive line. The way the Austria international has settled at Spurs is quite admirable, rightly earning praise from former Premier League player Darren Ambrose earlier this week.
