Brennan Johnson started for Tottenham and scored a brace in the 4-1 away win over Ipswich Town on Saturday
Tottenham Hotspur recorded their third consecutive Premier League win by beating Ipswich Town 4-1 at Portman Road on Saturday.
Brennan Johnson’s brace put Spurs two ahead but Omari Hutchinson offered Ipswich Town lifeline with a goal before half-time. Although the home side threatened to equalise after the interval, seeing a goal disallowed for offside, Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski were able to make sure Ange Postecoglou’s side returned to North London with the points.
Ange Postecoglou is finally getting his key players back and now suddenly the team are picking up points again. He welcomed five stars back in the 1-0 win over Manchester United last weekend and today had the luxury to bring on some fresh legs in the starting XI against Ipswich.

Brennan Johnson was handed a start at Portman Road and he repaid Postecoglou’s faith with a brace. The Welshman, who has been among the most improved Spurs players this season, missed seven games with a calf problem. Now, he has returned with a bang, helping the Lilywhites to three crucial points on the travels.
Facing the media for his post-match duties, Postecoglou was asked about Johnson’s goals and overall performance. The Tottenham gaffer praised the 23-year-old’s ruthlessness in front of goal, citing the team has missed another “front-third player like him” of late.
“Yeah, Brennan’s really good for us. We don’t really have another front third player like him. He just knows when to arrive at the right time. He’s really clinical. It’s just great to get him back and get him 60 minutes of football. He’s missed a lot of football. I’m sure he’ll feel good after today,” Postecoglou told Football London.

Johnson has been a key player for Big Ange’s side this season, adding more goals to his name. Following his brace, the Nottingham-born talent has taken his tally to 14 goals for the season across all competitions. This makes him Tottenham’s top scorer, ahead of experienced pros like Son Heung-min and Dominic Solanke.

It was good to see the Wales international get 64 minutes in his tank against the Tractor Boys, helping him get back some match sharpness after a couple of weeks on the sidelines. With games coming thick and fast, having Johnson back from injury and firing goals is a big boost for Big Ange and Spurs.
Johnson has so much potential and he is only going to keep growing with more minutes, time and experience under his belt.
