Tottenham backed to trigger €75 million release clause for 18G/A striker

Wolves set to retain Tottenham target Matheus Cunha.

Daniel Levy had been in the market vying for new striker in the recently concluded winter transfer window and it was the second successive window where the North Londoners dipped into the market in a want to sign a centre forward, and while many were targeted, a highlight among them was a Brazilian ace who has been a nightmare for defender in the Premier League this season in Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha.

And Wolves wanted to keep hold of their star player in the middle of the season as they looked to survive in the English top tier which meant a transfer in January was not feasible and he went on to pen down a new contract with the Wanderers, but that doesn’t keep Tottenham Hotspur to build on their interest in the 25-year-old at the end of the season.

Cunha is a dynamic forward who can be perfect for Postecoglou’s system

Cunha is playing some excellent football this season; to put that into numbers, he has contributed to 18 goal contributions across all competitions. And to put a frame into the game he plays, the former Atletico Madrid striker is someone who likes to be on the ball, drop back, carry the ball, and create space for himself and his teammates. He could fit in the between-the-lines all-out attack football that Ange Postecoglou has deployed at N17, but to add to it—Cunha can not only take the centre stage in Solanke’s absence but also play alongside him, which adds to the offensive dynamics for the Australian head coach (if he is still in charge at White Hart Lane going into next season).

That being said, Spurs aren’t alone in their pursuit of Cunha, the Premier League trio of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal, have also been interested in his signature.

The 25-year-old possesses a €75 million release clause in his contract at Molineux Stadium, and Tottenham could be looking to trigger the aforementioned clause in the off-season, per CaughtOffside.

For Tottenham, he will not only add the clinical presence upfront but also bring in the pressing ability and take up the spaces of both Timo Werner and Richarlison in the squad, with both of them linked with an N17 exit. Moreover, with Son Heung-min on the wrong side of the age, he can be the star figure at White Hart Lane in the long term.
