The Lilywhites supporters were craving a new centre forward after Dominic Solanke pulled out with an injury, and as the former Bournemouth centre forward had to be demoted to the sidelines, Ange Postecoglou barely had any deputy up front with Richarlison having his own injury concerns, forcing the Australian head coach to play makeshift players. This led to Daniel Levy trying his hand in the market to bring in a commendable striker, and the Lilywhites were looking at Ipswich Town ace Liam Delap; however, any transfer couldn’t be made given how the Man City academy graduate is the sole hope of surviving in the Premier League for the tractor boys.
At just twenty-two, Delap has shown more than just a glimpse of his potential as he is making a significant impact in the English top tier with ten goals in 25 appearances, which includes a goal in their recent 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. And it’s this ability to find the back of the net that has earned him plaudits and links with a move to league elites like Tottenham, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
Could relegation trigger Delap transfer?

And while multiple clubs look to sign him when the summer window comes around, his current employers Ipswich Town may find it difficult to keep hold of Liam Delap, especially if they end up getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of this season. In a recent report with Football Insider, Mick Brown, a former chief scout at Manchester United and Blackburn, insisted that the lack of financial potential as a consequence of the relegation could force the Tractor Boys to sell.
He insists that Delap is looked at as one of Ipswich’s most valuable assets in the roster, given his impressive performances this season.
Spurs ready to pounce if Tractor Boys face relegation
Delap also fits perfectly into Ange Postecoglou’s playing style with his high physicality complemented by his poaching instincts that are continually a nightmare to the defenders, and then comes his hard-working ethics off the ball that could go on and help the North Londoners massively as well.
At the moment Ipswich lay a couple of points of safety in 18th place, but the threat of a drop to the Championship looms large. And for Tottenham and Levy, they should be ready to pounce on the opportunity of securing a striker of Delap’s calibre if Ipswich were to go down.
