£32 million Tottenham misfit tipped to join Sevilla in the summer

Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon has emerged as a top defensive target for Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce.

There has been an air of exodus around White Hart Lane for a while now as Daniel Levy aids in taking the next steps to develop a squad that is of high potential with a long-term vision to compete at the top, and while the club chairman has done a wonderful job in moving the surplus at Hotspur Way, one player found a way to stay at N17 against all odds, and also while he sits on his couch on game days… Sergio Reguilon.

The Lilywhites did try to offload him in the last summer transfer window and then again in the January window; however, the interest from clubs like Fenerbahce did not materialise into a transfer (even when it looked certain at one point).

England not working out for Sergio Reguilon

The 28-year-old left-back has seen his career go backwards since he moved to England as he found it difficult to find his feet in the physical and pacey life of the English top tier despite moving to White Hart Lane in a highly anticipated transfer from Real Madrid on a five-year deal worth £32 million in 2020.

Last season, in a bid to rejuvenate his career, Levy loaned him out to both Manchester United and Brentford, but Reguilon continued to struggle to make any meaningful contributions at either club.

No place in Ange’s roster

Now, about five years on from his first steps through the doors in North London, he finds it difficult to get on the bench, let alone in the starting eleven under Ange Postecoglou. To put that into perspective, the Spaniard is yet to start a single Premier League game for Spurs this season, and that makes way for prompting speculation about his future at Tottenham. And with a lack of consistent playing time under his belt, it is becoming clear that his best interest lies in pursuing opportunities beyond White Hart Lane.

Spanish savior emerges to land Reguilon

There is a possibility that the 28-year-old can return to Spain and play in La Liga, a league where he has thrived before, and with a club that he called home before…

Sevilla are hopeful of bringing Sergio Reguilon to N17 on a free transfer this summer and the La Liga giants are said to have begun informal talks to secure his signature, per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

We will see where it goes from here, but it does look certain that Reguilon is not going to be at White Hart Lane when next season comes around…
