Can Spurs Still Qualify for Europe?

It’s been a struggle of a season for Spurs so far for multiple reasons. The results and performances have been far from good enough and a world away from what’s expected. And the injury crisis that has rocked the club hasn’t helped. However, with a portion of the season to go, can Spurs still qualify for Europe?

Looking at all the available data, including form, the injury list, performances, and even, the odds are stacked against Spurs qualifying for Europe next season via their finish in the top flight. They’re at a minimum nine points adrift of where they need to be, potentially more, depending on if the division is handed an extra Champions League slot. But is all hope lost? Or is there still a glimmer of hope?

To make it happen via the Premier League, Spurs need to chain wins together and start picking up maximum points on a regular basis, something they’ve failed to do this season. There have only been two occasions this term where they’ve managed to win two in a row, and both times, it’s been a win against Brentford, followed up by victory over Manchester United. This first occurred in late September and then again in February.

At the very least, Spurs winning on a regular basis will put pressure on the teams above them, and this can only be a good thing. On the back of two wins in a row, and with a few more full weeks of preparation to come between games, there’s a chance for Spurs to rest, recuperate and prepare for the games they have coming, which has and should continue to, show an improvement in both performances and results for the time being.

What will also be a huge boost is if Spurs can welcome more of their first team players back from injury. They’ve been in the midst of an injury crisis for months, with not only their key players, but many of the first team players in the treatment room, for an extended period, all at the same time. If Ange Postecoglu has more of his first-team squad to choose from, Spurs are almost certain to perform better, which should lead to positive results. This would give them a greater chance of making a late push for a finish that would see them qualify for Europe.

Of course, Spurs have another potential route into Europe. They’re already through to the last 16 of the Europa League and are one of the seeded teams ahead of the upcoming draw. If Spurs were to have a successful Europa League campaign, which is not beyond them, they would qualify for next season’s Champions League.

All hope is not lost for Spurs, even though their situation has looked bleak for much of 2024/25. Yes, everything suggests that they won’t qualify for Europe this term, and the odds are stacked heavily against them. But anything is possible at this stage, especially if things start to go in their favour, such as key players returning from injury.
