Injury expert confirms Tottenham attacker ‘chasing health’ is set for weeks on the sidelines

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to part ways with Richarlison this January.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison is set to be out for a few more weeks with a calf injury

The injury issues at Tottenham Hotspur are slowly starting to ease off of late. Ange Postecoglou welcomed as many as five players back from injury in the 1-0 win over Manchester United at home earlier this month.

However, there are a few experienced players who still remain out. One of them is Richarlison, who has been in and out of the Spurs side largely due to his injury issues, since arriving in a £60million deal from Everton in the summer of 2022.

The Brazilian forward returned from injury last month from a prolonged period on the sidelines, only to suffer a fresh calf setback during the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield on February 6. Persistent injury problems have limited him to just nine Premier League appearances thus far this season. Overall, he has clocked just 545 minutes across 14 appearances.

The Richarlison transfer has not quite worked out for Tottenham.

Now, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar has dropped an injury update on Richarlison. He thinks the 27-year-old is not expected to be out of his ‘injury cycle’ until the end of the season, spending at least a few more weeks on the sidelines due to the latest calf problem.

“This one is calf-related and it’s one that’s going to keep him out for a few weeks,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Based on his recent injuries and where we are in the season, I wouldn’t expect him to get out of this cycle until the season ends and he has the needed time to really build up his fitness and health.

“It’s really difficult to be chasing health in the middle of a season.”

Ange Postecoglou has barely been able to use Richarlison this season

The chiefs at the Hotspur Way have started growing frustrated with Richarlison’s persistent fitness concerns. He has already missed 34 games this season due to a combination of hamstring, groin and calf problems and is set to be unavailable for more in the coming weeks.

At this point, Ange Postecoglou simply cannot rely on the South American to stay fit and be available for selection. Such a condition is extremely tough for a player—both physically and mentally. During these crucial games before the March international break, Big Ange would have hoped to have him fit and firing to help Spurs climb the Premier League table and progress to the next Europa League round.

Given Dr Brar’s assessment, Richarlison is unlikely to be 100 per cent fit until the end of the season, which means other forwards such as Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson and Mathys Tel must step up to the plate.
