Paul Robinson pours cold water on Harry Kane's sensational return links to Tottenham

Bayern Munich star Harry Kane has been sensationally linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Ange Postecoglou is already eyeing up potential summer transfers for Tottenham Hotspur even though his future has been up for debate in recent months.

While the prospect of adding fresh faces to the roster is always exciting, especially after a troubling 2024/25 season, a familiar name has emerged as a possibility. Bayern Munich star Harry Kane has been sensationally linked with a return to Spurs since last week.

Harry Kane has been banging goals left, right and centre for Bayern Munich since arriving from Tottenham in the summer of 2023. The England international is still operating at a high standard where he can be expected to singlehandedly change any team’s fortunes, having registered 29 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season.

With that being the case, the 31-year-old has also been linked with moves to Tottenham’s Premier League rivals, Arsenal and Manchester United. However, the Lilywhites and Bayern have an agreement over Kane about a potential return, with the Ange Postecoglou-coached club having the first option to re-sign him in case he departs Germany.

Chris Sutton believes Harry Kane has reasons to be envious of Tottenham Hotspur.

The English centre-forward can depart the Bavarian heavyweights for £67million this summer and £54million next winter transfer window. So the hope remains alive, with many fans dreaming of the former superstar returning to N17 for one final dance.

However, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has ruled out Kane’s sensational return to White Hart Lane. He thinks it does not make sense for the great goalscorer to swap Bayern for Spurs as he is scoring a lot of goals in Germany and is now closer to winning some silverware.

“No chance [Kane will come back]. Absolutely no chance,” Paul Robinson exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I know that he’s got a buyout clause in his contract and Tottenham have got first refusal. If he’s to come back to the Premier League you can only imagine that it would be to Tottenham but why would he? I mean he’s scoring a hat full of goals there. It’s looking like he’s going to get some silverware this season.

“He left Tottenham because he wanted to progress and win things and play in the Champions League. You look at where Bayern Munich are this season. Top of the league, looking like very serious title contenders, if not they’re going to win the league this year.

“Champions League football that he’s had. The domestic trophies that could come along his way and then you compare that to the season that Tottenham have had. In all honesty, nothing’s changed since he left so why would he go back to what he left and the reasons that he left for?”

PSG could double their bid for Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane if Mbappe join Al Hilal.
Will the Hotspur Way chiefs try bringing Harry Kane back to the club?

Kane is a legendary figure at Tottenham, where he has netted a record-breaking 280 goals in 435 appearances before leaving for Bayern. The Englishman has bagged a whopping 73 goals and registered 20 assists on top of that in 77 appearances for the German club, which are simply mindboggling numbers and further illustrate his undying hunger for goals.

The all-time Spurs and England record goalscorer still awaits his first major honour of his career. Some fans are certainly dreaming of a reunion and we would be stunned to Kane return to N17. The Walthamstow-born ace essentially has the final say on by whom his release clause is triggered, so can turn down any move by which he isn’t fully convinced.

While a move back to the club where he got global recognition as one of the world’s best goalscorers in modern football would be extremely emotional for everyone attached to Tottenham, Robinson’s views of being happy at Bayern and competing for major honours cannot be underestimated.
