Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou could bench Dejan Kulusevski in favour of James Maddison vs Man City
Tottenham Hotspur will look to make it four Premier League wins in a row when they host Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night.
The North Londoners’ form has improved a bit since their injury problems eased somewhat in recent times, beating Brentford, Manchester United and Ipswich Town in the Premier League to climb up to 13th in the table.
They were fantastic against Ipswich Town last weekend, smashing them 4-1. A brace from Brennan Johnson and further goals from Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski sealed a memorable deal in the afternoon sunshine of East Angelia.
Next up for Ange Postecoglou’s boys is a home game against Man City, whom they have already beaten twice this season—a 4-0 win at the Etihad Stadium in the league and a 2-1 Carabao Cup success. Having won three league games in a row, Tottenham will be heading into this juicy fixture with high spirits.

Ange Postecoglou has now a lot of options available at his disposal with key players returning from injury of late, even though not all are at peak fitness levels. Thus, the Australian boss will have room to make changes to his squad on Wednesday, and Dejan Kulusevski could be one to drop out of the XI.
This is the view of Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham. He thinks Dejan Kulusevski could make way for James Maddison against Man City, with the latter coming off the bench and making a telling impact at Ipswich.
“I think Spence and Destiny Udogie will start together again,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“With Ben Davies ruled out we’re probably looking at Kevin Danso and Archie Gray at centre-back. Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall seem to be the two in midfield that Postecoglou likes at the moment.
“Further forward, I think Maddison must start, especially after his two goals against City earlier this season at the Etihad. I also think his leadership skills will be useful in a game such as this one. After Johnson’s performance against Ipswich, it is hard to leave him out.
“I think Mathys Tel and Son Heung-min will both start, which means Kulusevski missing out. It is a dilemma for Postecoglou, but what a great dilemma to have.”

Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had tipped Kulusevski to make an impact against Ipswich and he did exactly that, scoring the final goal in the 4-1 victory. The Sweden international has been Tottenham’s standout performer in an otherwise torrid campaign. However, he has looked exhausted in recent games which in turn have impacted the team’s attacks.
With some key players back from injury, Big Ange has now got the luxury to rest a couple of players including Kulusevski who have played relentlessly over the last three months. And it would not be a bad idea to start James Maddison, who has returned from injury with a bang. The Englishman has registered a goal and an assist in the last two games, and having come off the bench at Portman Road, he should be fresh to start against Man City.
