Tottenham Hotspur will have to spend over £70m to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer
The need for a new central defender has been growing at Tottenham Hotspur, and we saw how Daniel Levy went aggressively in the winter market to bring in a new face.
Spurs signed Kevin Danso on loan from Ligue 1 club RC Lens with an obligation to buy clause at the end of the season. The Austrian defender is proving to be quite an astute addition to the defensive roster, earning praise from Ange Postecoglou after his strong display in the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town.
The Lilywhites stepped up their efforts and hijacked Wolves’ move for Danso at the 11th hour during the final days of the January transfer window, owing to Radu Dragusin’s serious knee injury. However, with first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven still on the sidelines and Ben Davies out of contract at the end of the season, the North Londoners are expected to sign more central defenders when the transfer window reopens.

According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are set to battle against Manchester United and Liverpool to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Jarrad Branthwaite was part of the Everton backline that ranked fourth in terms of fewest goals conceded in the Premier League last season, despite the Merseyside outfit finishing 15th in the table. Rated as one of the best young defensive talents in the Premier League, the England international is continuing to grow from strength to strength in a rejuvenated Everton side under David Moyes, though, interest is only set to rise in the player.
The aforementioned report adds the Toffees plan to offer Branthwaite a new contract until 2029/2030 to fend off potential suitors as he is viewed as a crucial player for the club’s future. They would be loath to lose the defender, who is valued in excess of £70m.

Branthwaite is a highly regarded central defender who can also operate at left-back when required. The Carlisle-born talent not only possesses physical attributes but also is composed on the ball and can pick out passes from deep. Plus, he is an asset to have in both boxes. And Daniel Levy has put Tottenham Hotspur’s name among the potential suitors for a move for the 22-year-old.

For Ange Postecoglou and Spurs, bringing in a defender with the ability and potential of Branthwaite prepares them perfectly to continue beyond Cristian Romero, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid since 2024. However, we will have to beat intense competition to land the Englishman.
