Tottenham star Djed Spence sends an intimidating message on Man City winger Jeremy Doku’s social media post
Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 to Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening with Erling Haaland’s first-half goal proving to be the difference in an exciting Premier League contest.
Spurs were not at their races in the first half, which was completely dominated by the Sky Blues. Following a pep talk at half-time, the Lilywhites came out flying and created enough chances to at least get an equaliser. Ederson was in inspired form as he made some key saves to help Pep Guardiola’s side return to Manchester with the valuable points.
Having welcomed some key players back from injury of late, Ange Postecoglou decided to ring some changes to his squad. This led to him resting some of the players who have played relentlessly over the last few months. One of them to drop out of the Tottenham XI was Djed Spence, with Pedro Porro getting the nod to start at right-back.

Man City’s Jeremy Doku gave Porro a torrid time and his Spurs teammates with his blistering pace, unpredictability, dribbling and directness. The Belgian was the visitors’ brightest spot in the first half, causing all kinds of problems for Ange Postecoglou’s side. In fact, he was the architect behind the game’s only goal, with the winger’s pass taking a slight deflection and finding its way to Haaland, who tucked it past a hapless Guglielmo Vicario.
Doku deservedly won the Man of the Match award as City avoided a clean-sweep to Spurs this season. After the match, the fleet-footed attacker posted a series of photos on his official Instagram account, captioning the post, “Important three points secured and coming back to Manchester! Let’s keep it pushing Man City. Glory to God always.”
Djed Spence commented on Doku’s post: “We’ll meet next time.”
Spence and Doku were teammates at Rennes when the Tottenham full-back spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign on loan. So, the pair know each other very well.

It was a rather intimidating message from Spence, who currently is arguably the best full-back in the Premier League after overcoming the early tough moments this season. Given the form he is in, the Spurs full-back could have done a lot better than Porro defensively to contain the electric Doku, having kept Mohamed Salah at bay in a cup game in January.
This also reflects the England youth international’s confidence at the moment. Spence has become a crucial cog in the starting XI since December, so Big Ange’s decision to leave him out of the lineup in such a big Premier League game was a bit perplexing.

Perhaps, the Spurs gaffer is now putting all eggs in the Europa League basket to try and win the competition as there is apparently very little to play in the Premier League with just 11 games left. And fans could take that as a hint when he decided to rest Spence, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski on Wednesday evening.
