Tottenham Hotspur have decided not to sign Timo Werner permanently from RB Leipzig in the summer
Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur decided to re-sign Timo Werner on loan with an option to buy after being impressed with his impact during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.
However, the Germany international has struggled to secure a prominent role under Ange Postecoglou despite the Lilywhites witnessing an unprecedented injury situation. Despite his versatility, the forward’s performances at White Hart Lane have failed to impress, prompting the Hotspur Way chiefs to sign Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window.
Timo Werner is yet to score a Premier League goal this season. The 28-year-old has bagged just one goal in all competitions from 25 games—and with Tottenham having signed Tel, his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks to be up.

Earlier this week, Ange Postecoglou revealed that the German star was available for selection against Ipswich Town at Portman Road but left out due to the return of key figures from injury problems. While Werner has overcome his hamstring issue, which led to him missing 10 games, the chances of featuring for the Lilywhites from now until the end of the season looks slim for him.
Transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano has now dropped the latest update on Werner’s future. The respected Italian journalist claims the 28-year-old’s stay at White Hart Lane beyond this season is “impossible”.
“I think you’ve been nice with unlikely. I think it’s impossible. From my information, it’s something that they have already decided internally. It was not a good season for Werner and for Spurs together, so I think it’s in the interests of both parties to try something different next season,” Fabrizio Romano said GIVEMESPORT’s ‘Market Madness’ podcast.
“So the expectation is for Werner to return to Leipzig, and then to try a new experience. In terms of MLS and New York, what I was hearing in January when this rumour started in the January transfer window, is that there was nothing really concrete into it.
“Let’s see for the summer. In January, it was never really close from what I heard.”

Following the expiry of his loan spell at Spurs, Werner is set to return to RB Leipzig. He may look to compete for a spot at RB Leipzig or leave the club permanently in the summer. MLS clubs like New York Red Bulls are potentially looking to land the ex-Chelsea flop.

Werner will be 29 by the end of the season, and having failed to score a Premier League goal this season thus far, it is very clear that he has no future at Tottenham. All in all, it makes complete sense why the Hotspur Way chiefs do not want to spend £8.5m to sign Werner permanently from RB Leipzig.
