“100 percent”- Tottenham warned that summer signing will not hit his best this season

Tottenham Hotspur face a fight on their hands to land Eberechi Eze.

Tottenham winger Wilson Odobert is still not ready to play 90 minutes having only returned from a long injury layoff earlier this month

Tottenham Hotspur’s performance levels and form have been improving following the return of some key players in recent weeks.

Over the last three months, Ange Postecoglou has had to make do without several key players. At some point in the campaign, the injury toll reached double figures. However, the Lilywhites are finally starting to look up with the injury situation easing up.

One of the Tottenham players to have returned to the side recently is Wilson Odobert. The youngster was out for four months after undergoing hamstring surgery that led to him missing 27 games. Thus, it is quite obvious that he is going to take some time to get back his rhythm and match sharpness.

Ange Postecoglou handed Wilson Odobert his first start after returning from a long injury layoff against Manchester City. The Frenchman dished out a decent display as Spurs lost 1-0 to Man City at home.

Initially he looked a bit rusty, which is very much understandable, but as the game wore on, the winger started asking questions of the City defence with his pace, dribbling and movements. The Meaux-born talent was taken off in the 67th minute after a tireless shift.

Tottenham are now just alive in one cup competition—the Europa League—and they will be doing everything possible to win it. Winning the Europa League will not only end the club’s long trophy drought but also provide a direct entry to the Champions League next season.

Postecoglou’s side face AZ Alkmaar at home on March 6 in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16, and ahead of next week’s continental clash, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar has dropped an update on Odobert. He claims Odobert having recently returned from a long layoff is not ready to play the full 90 minutes. So, the club must ease him back to action in order to avoid a re-injury.

“Having been out of action for four months, he is significantly lacking match sharpness,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.

“He will need bounce minutes and then a run of games to get close to 100 per cent but he may not truly be close to that until next season.

“The club have been gradually ramping up his minutes but he’s still not ready to play the full 90 minutes and that might take a few more games.”

Before starting against Man City in midweek, Odobert played three and 16 minutes in the wins over Manchester United and Ipswich Town, respectively. Big Ange has managed the 20-year-old’s minutes well since he’s come back from injury, easing him into action to build his fitness and avoid a relapse.

With the crucial first leg of the Europa League round of 16 clash against AZ Alkmaar slated for next week, expect Odobert to get more minutes under his belt although he may still not be ready to last the whole game if handed a start by our gaffer, who feels the Tottenham fans will get to see the best of the Frenchman next season.
