The North Londoners have been looking to compound on their midfield roster in the upcoming summer transfer window as Daniel Levy finally looks to bring in some depth and dynamism in the middle of the park given how the Lilywhites have duly struggled for lack of quality that can fit seamlessly into Ange Postecoglou’s playing style, but that could all change as Tottenham Hotspur reportedly eye Angel Gomes on a free transfer in the off season.
The 24-year-old England international opted not to renew his current contract with LOSC Lille and is set to become a free agent when the summer transfer window comes around, which has opened doors for multiple clubs to pursue his signature, and the North Londoners are said to be a strong contender given all the rumours surrounding a possible move over the past few months.
But it is not just Tottenham for Gomes…
In a recent report by CaughtOffside, they reveal that Spurs Premier League rivals Manchester United are also keen on signing Gomes. Any move to Old Trafford would mean that Gomes would return back as a promising player at a place he has thrived as a promising prospect.
But for Tottenham, there is a dire need to bring in a creative outlet who possesses technical ability and can bring some control and mobility in the midfield, and by how he is doing so in the French top tier, Gomes fits the bill perfectly.
United or Tottenham?
This will be a confusing decision for Gomes; both the clubs have undertaken ambitious projects with talented head coaches who strive for marginal differences that can help the team’s performance, and he will need to sit down and possibly look at where he can become an integral part of the roster and where he can have opportunities to fight (and win) trophies regularly.
That being said, Tottenham and Manchester United are not the only clubs looking at Gomes, with the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and West Ham United also keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, showing that the competition for his signature is going to be fierce given how each of the aforementioned clubs presents its own unique appeal.
