TTLB Opinion: Tottenham battle giants in two separate £50m+ wingers race, but who should Levy sign?

Luka Vuskovic feels he is ready to make an impact at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites have been trying to bring in a new forward in the ongoing campaign given how Ange Postecoglou has been looking for a player with flair and skills who can bring on-game solutions and is capable of playing in the free-flowing nature of the Australian head coach’s system at N17, and one of the players who Tottenham Hotspur are vying to bring in when the summer transfer window comes around is winger Antoine Semenyo, who has been playing some exceptional football in the ongoing campaign.

And according to a recent report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Cherries have set a hefty asking price of €60 million for the 25-year-old Ghanaian ace, who will be looking to take up forward steps in his career and compete for silverware by being part of one of the Premier League’s elites. By joining Spurs, while he wouldn’t have immediate prospects of silverware, given the project that the North Londoners have taken up, it surely is an exciting one, one that is quite capable of competing (and winning) trophies.

Can Semenyo bring the spark Tottenham’s attack has been lacking?

Is Semenyo the right fit at Tottenham?

When you look at the price tag, it might seem hefty, but given the potential he possesses, it may well end up being a bargain by the time he reaches his peak. The 25-year-old has regularly troubled the Premier League defenders with his dribbling and that blistering pace when he gets the ball sticking to his feet, and that has churned into nine goals and five assists in all competitions this season.

And while he prefers to operate from that right flank primarily, his versatility means he can be slotted across the front three, which makes him an asset to possess in the roster. It’s his pace, flair, and goal-scoring ability that we’ve not seen regularly at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, and it will add dynamism and unpredictability to the current attacking setup that has struggled to break down defences this season.

However, Tottenham would not be alone in their pursuit of the 25-year-old, as the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested in his signature.

Spurs have also been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Gittens; now it is to be seen which player Levy goes on to compound on.

Then who makes more sense? – Jamie Bynoe-Gittens or Antoine Semenyo

Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing rising Dortmund star Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

If we go about it from exposure and experience, Semenyo brings that advantage of knowing the Premier League and proving himself in the English top tier, while Bynoe-Gittens will be a high-ceiling (and yet raw) investment that comes with potential for growth. And while the Dortmund starlet’s dribbling prowess aligns with that of Spurs’ emphasis on flair and creativity on the wings, Semenyo’s directness and physicality can add a diverse dimension to the current roster (and his versatility may also be an added asset).

Now if you look at the all-important aspect of it, the cost of the whole transaction—the reported £80 million valuation for Bynoe-Gittens will be a significant investment for someone who is still very raw and comparatively Semenyo will be a more cost-effective option, in turn ensuring that the club can allocate funds to other positions (and players).
