Tottenham youngster Luka Vuskovic has been making waves in the Belgian top flight with KVC Westerlo
Tottenham Hotspur have got a lot many things wrong when it comes to the transfer recruitment over the years, mis-profiling players multiple times. Having said that, though, the club chiefs deserve some plaudits for identifying young gems from all across Europe and bringing them to N17.
Back in September 2023, Spurs paid £12million to sign highly-rated defender Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split, beating Manchester City, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain among some European giants in the process. Due to the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, the youngster was not eligible to play for the North London club until 2025 after he turns 18.
As a result, the teenager was sent back to Hajduk Split until January 2024 before Tottenham decided to loan him out to Belgian club K.V.C Westerlo. Luka Vuskovic has been making quite an impression in the Belgian top flight, having scored an incredible seven goals in 26 league games. His goal contributions for a central defender is truly outstanding, documenting what a big asset the defender is for the team to have at both ends of the pitch.

Vuskovic picked up the Man of the Match award over the weekend as his side kept out OH Leuven in a 0-0 draw, continuing his strong form for Westerlo. Transfer news king Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham are “very happy” with the young Croat’s development on loan at Westerlo. The club internally believes they have signed a “top talent” for the future.
“Tottenham are happy with Luka Vuskovic’s development on loan at Westerlo,” Fabrizio Romano wrote on his official X account.
“2007 born CB was Man of the Match yesterday and already with +50 professional games… with 11 goals scored.
“Spurs believe they signed a top talent, strongly wanted by former Chief Scout Gabbanini.”

Vuskovic’s performances in Westerlo colours have already brought plaudits this season. Standing at a towering 6ft 4ins tall, the Croatia under-21 international has the capacity to physically dominate his opponents whilst possessing the technical skills and reading of the game to bring the ball out from the back. He has the raw tools to thrive in the high-pressing, intense and aggressive system of Ange Postecoglou.
While he looks to be the next youngster who could break into the Tottenham side under Postecoglou having taken significant strides in his development in Belgium, the teenager still lacks the experience at the highest level. Vuskovic needs more experience to develop further before he can challenge the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven and Radu Dragusin for a starting spot at White Hart Lane.

Warming the benches at Spurs will certainly not benefit him, as at 18 the defender needs to play regularly. Thus, it would make sense from the Hotspur Way chiefs to consider loaning Vuskovic out to a Premier League or Championship club for the 2025/26 season that helps him get accustomed to the labours of English football.
