Mathys Tel would love to get to know some of his Tottenham Hotspur teammates more
Mathys Tel seems to be loving life at Tottenham Hotspur.
Signing the talented Frenchman on loan from Bayern Munich was a real coup of sorts for the Lilywhites in January, particularly as it was understood that Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal were all vying for his signature during the final days of the transfer window. The club have the option to sign the teenage sensation permanently for £45.7m from Bayern Munich at the end of the season but only if he gives the green light for the move.
Mathys Tel has been adapting well to the new surroundings of English football, as evident by his improving performances. He is also getting to know his teammates more—both on and off the field. The France youth international has shared the dressing room with some of the most experienced players at White Hart Lane, trying to build a camaraderie on the pitch. But it is off the pitch where he wants to know some of his teammates better and strike a strong relationship.

It will take some time for Tel to get to know his teammates having only arrived in North London on January deadline day (February 3). Before joining Spurs, the only player from this club he shared a good relationship with was Wilson Odobert. That is because they have played together at youth level for France.
Now, in an exclusive interview with TNT Sports, Tel was asked which one of his Tottenham teammates he wants to get to know the most. The young forward named Odobert, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma because they can all speak French, but the player who is at the top of his list is skipper Son Heung-min.
“The French [speaking] players, like Bissouma, Pape, Wilson but especially Son. Son, yeah,” Tel told TNT Sports.
Son Heung-min is a modern-day legend at Tottenham, a highly revered and respected figure who has been among the most consistent players in the Premier League for a long time. The South Korean has taken the leadership mantle since Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, leading the team by an example and helping out a lot of young players that have arrived at White Hart Lane to settle down at the club.

So, it is not surprising that Tel wants to know Son the most and perhaps also learn the tricks of the trade from a seasoned Premier League campaigner. However, with the 32-year-old about to enter the final year of his contract and his long-term future at the club up in the air, Tel may not have a lot of time to learn more about the South Korean’s personality and desire to keep going every season in a Tottenham shirt that has made him an absolute icon in the English top flight.
