Tottenham set to extend defensive star’s contract amid £30m transfer links

Tottenham are having a disastrous season yet, currently sitting in 13th position and heading for their worst Premier League finish in years. Yet, the issues cannot be placed at the door of the manager alone, with the team having been hit hard by injury issues early in the season. Yet, despite the issues, there have been a couple of players who have risen above expectations, with Djed Spence leading the way after collecting three consecutive Premier League Man of the Match awards. With speculation about his future increasing, Tottenham seem set to offer him a contract extension.

Djed Spence has proven himself to be a valuable addition to the Tottenham team, scoring his first Premier League goal in the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town on 22 February. Though he was given a break for Spurs’ 1-0 loss to City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 26 February, the 24-year-old still made an impression coming off the bench against Pep Guardiola’s team. His outstanding displays have placed him in the frame to receive an eventual contract offer extension from Tottenham next summer.

Djed Spence – a baller in making ?

Following several loan stints, Djed Spence has come back from injury and is now one of the Premier League’s best right-backs. With Ange Postecoglou, the Englishman has improved with every matchday and now finds himself and his position cemented at the starting lineup.
Tottenham recently renewed Spence’s contract until 2028, with his wages reportedly improved.

But Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, thinks another extension might be in the pipeline as Spence’s transfer value keeps going up.

Wenham pointed out that Spence has a contract at Tottenham until 2028 but predicted that his stunning form could prompt an extension to 2030 or 2031. He underlined that the defender is breaking new ground, already worth more than £30 million, with his value set to increase further. Also, the fact that Spence is homegrown and so versatile makes him a precious player who can operate on both wings.

The Lilywhiterose owner speaking to TottenhamNews, expressed how N-17 should reward Spence with a contract extention

“He has got a contract with the club until 2028,”

“Based on his current form, I wouldn’t be surprised if another contract extension is being lined up for the summer which would see Spence extend until 2030 or 2031.

“I just think he is reaching new heights now, and he is easily worth £30million-plus already, and that value will only continue to skyrocket. He is homegrown and he can play on both sides of the pitch.”

Even with Spurs’ injury woes this term, Postecoglou can console himself that Destiny Udogie’s injury paved the way for Spence to prove himself. If not for it, the then Nottingham Forest loanee would have probably been sold—a move Tottenham would not have regretted. With that now assured in his place, Spence should keep on starting and becoming the first-choice fullback going forward.
