Tottenham Hotspur vying against Arsenal and Liverpool for Bundesliga midfield star

Tottenham must pay €60m to sign Eintracht Frankfurt starlet Hugo Larsson this summer

Tottenham have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the transfer race for Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson

Tottenham Hotspur have been enduring a challenging season, one that currently sees them in the bottom half of the Premier League table and eliminated from all the domestic cup competitions.

The North Londoners now only have winning the Europa League as their objective, as it will not only end their long trophy drought but also open the door for an entry to the elite Champions League next season. To bolster their hopes of landing the continental piece of silverware, the Hotspur Way chiefs backed Ange Postecoglou during the winter transfer window with three signings.

Despite the likes of Kevin Danso, Antonin Kinsky and Mathys Tel only arriving at the club during the January transfer window, Spurs have already been making plans to make further adjustments to their squad in preparation for next season. After a taxing season, they are open to overseeing exits in the coming months as it would allow them to boost their budget and secure quality replacements.

Yves Bissouma is set to enter the final year of his contract at the end of June. As he has failed to live up to the lofty expectations at White Hart Lane following his move from Brighton in 2022, the club chiefs are planning to cash him in before the 2025/26 season commences.

As a possible replacement for the Mali international, the Lilywhites are keeping tabs on a player currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga.

According to reputed Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham are among a host of Premier League clubs monitoring Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson. They are keeping a close eye on his performances, with Eintracht Frankfurt braced for concrete offers for the young gun this summer.

Hugo Larsson moved to Eintracht Frankfurt from Swedish side Malmo in the summer of 2023. The German side facilitated the transfer by paying a €9m fee to Malmo. Notably, the midfielder’s stock market value has skyrocketed—as evidenced by the number of clubs circling now for his signature.

Plettenberg adds on his X account that Frankfurt CEO Markus Krösche wants at least €60m to sell Larsson, who signed a contract extension last October until the summer of 2029. Arsenal and Liverpool also remain admirers of the player’s talents.

Larsson could be an excellent potential replacement for Bissouma, bringing more composure, control and balance to the Tottenham side whilst lifting the technical ceiling of the squad. The Sweden international, who has been compared to Manchester City great Rodri for his style of play, has been an important player for Frankfurt this season, scoring five goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Signing a talent like Larsson would not be easy for Spurs, though, owing to the competition from different European leagues. It is unlikely that the prodigious Scandinavian talent heads to N17 in the summer as a number of clubs will be in the running for him and a mooted €60m fee will make it difficult for the North London club to move for him.

That being said, it remains to be seen if Tottenham are better off pursuing other midfield targets who are easy to attain.
