Tottenham have already taken first steps to sign Atalanta star Ademola Lookman during the summer transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make improvements to their squads after a tough 2024/25 campaign.
Spurs currently lie in the bottom half of the table with no realistic chances of getting a spot in the Champions League. Their only route to Champions League football next season lies in winning the Europa League.
The North Londoners bolstered their squad in the January transfer window with three signings. While they signed a left-sided attacker in Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy, the club have been seemingly keeping tabs on another wide forward currently plying his trade in Serie A.

According to a report from Italian outlet Juve Live, Tottenham are interested in signing Atalanta star Ademola Lookman. They are planning to make an offer in the region of €45million, but face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool for the player’s signature.
Ademola Lookman has performed exceptionally well since moving to Atalanta from RB Leipzig a couple of years, establishing himself as one of the best forwards in Serie A. The Nigerian international netted an impressive 17 goals in 45 games across all competitions last season, leading from the front in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph over Bayer Leverkusen with a headline-grabbing hat-trick.
While he has been enjoying another hugely productive campaign, with 17 goals and seven assists already under his belt, the 27-year-old’s future in Bergamo has become uncertain ever since falling out with his manager Gian Piero Gasperini last month. Gasperini’s comments after Lookman’s penalty miss in the Champions League means he is no longer happy at Atalanta.
The winger is now looking for a new adventure, with a return to the Premier League the most alluring prospect. This has given the English teams an advantage over other clubs from European leagues.

The aforementioned report adds Tottenham are already ‘taking the first steps’ towards landing Lookman, whose future at the Gewiss Stadium could be decided in the coming months. Juventus also remain the African talent’s admirers, but Atalanta prefer selling him abroad rather than strengthening their Serie A rivals.
Lookman’s profile would perfectly fit into Ange Postecoglou’s system at Spurs. The ex-Everton and Fulham man’s ability to play anywhere across the front line, combined with his technical skills, pace, flair and versatility, make him a smart option to replace the ageing Son Heung-min. He would undoubtedly be an upgrade over Timo Werner, who is set to return to RB Leipzig once his loan terms expire in June.

However, with several clubs interested in Lookman, Spurs face an uphill task of luring him from Bergamo to N17 in the summer. It will be a challenge for Daniel Levy and his team to get the signature of one of Serie A’s most sought-after talents, perhaps something they’d relish.
