Tottenham defender Kevin Danso has showered praise on the “unbelievable” Archie Gray
Kevin Danso rejected Wolverhampton Wanderers at the 11th hour before signing for Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window.
Having made a name for himself in Ligue 1 with RC Lens, Kevin Danso was a wanted man in the previous transfer window. Spurs were desperate for a new central defender owing to Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies’ injury problems. And that need for defensive reinforcements further accentuated when Radu Dragusin sustained a serious, season-ending knee injury.
In the end, the Lilywhites signed the Austrian international on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. Ange Postecoglou will certainly be delighted with Danso’s impact at White Hart Lane, quickly becoming a fan favourite. Even former Premier League defender Darren Ambrose praised the centre-back following his tigerish display in the 1-0 win over Manchester United at home in February.

Now an integral member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad, Danso has started the last three Premier League games. The central defender, who has quickly taken to life in North London, has spoken about one of his Tottenham teammates in a recent interview with Football London.
The Austrian has heaped praise on Spurs starlet Archie Gray for his quality and maturity, despite being just 18. He also touched upon the “unbelievable” teenager’s off the field demeanor and the way he carries himself in the dressing room.
“Unbelievable, the fact that he’s 18, the maturity he plays with, the maturity with which he carries himself in the dressing room, it’s amazing, he’s a great lad and his quality has been on show for many weeks now. I think he’s just going to keep improving, because he’s only 18 and to already have that maturity in the way he plays football, and off the pitch, it’s something that’s going to take him a long way,” Danso told Football London when asked about Archie Gray.

Archie Gray joined Spurs from Championship side Leeds United last summer, and he has been one of the rare bright spots in an otherwise underwhelming 2024/25 season. Despite his natural position being in midfield, the England youth international has shown incredible adaptability, making 35 appearances across all competitions. The teenage prodigy’s versatility has made him a crucial player for Big Ange’s side.
Last month, Gray was named Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards. Tottenham’s injury crisis has meant that Gray and a few other youngsters at White Hart Lane have been run into the ground over the last few months. Still only 18 and developing, it would have been extremely taxing for him—both physically and mentally.
