Tottenham eye Feyenoord defender as Ben Davies replacement

Tottenham are interested in signing Feyenoord star David Hancko as a potential replacement for Ben Davies

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make changes to their squad after an underwhelming season. They currently lie in the bottom half of the Premier League table, eliminated from both domestic cup competitions and trail 1-0 to AZ Alkmaar ahead of next week’s return leg of the Europa League last-16.

So, the players should not be surprised if they are put on the chopping block by the Hotspur Way chiefs. Several Spurs are either entering the final year of their contracts or becoming a free agent at the end of June.

Ben Davies is into the final months of his contract and new terms are yet to be discussed, potentially paving the way for him to leave N17 on a free transfer. The experienced Welshman has missed a large chunk of his side’s season due to a hamstring injury, and Ange Postecoglou may feel he can’t be relied upon. As a result, the Lilywhites are eyeing a potential replacement for Davies ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham are keen to sign Feyenoord defender David Hancko

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham have set their sights on coveted Feyenoord defender David Hancko. The 27-year-old, who has been a target for Tottenham since last year, is on the radar of several European clubs following three strong seasons in the Eredivisie.

David Hancko has been a consistent performer for Feyenoord since arriving from Sparta Prague in August 2022. He has racked up 130 appearances for the Dutch side, registering an impressive 15 goals and 12 assists. What adds more value besides the Slovakian international’s name is his versatility and adaptability to operate both at centre-back and left-back without much fuss.

This has put several clubs on red alert over Hancko’s potential availability in the summer. The aforementioned report adds that Atletico Madrid are planning to enter official negotiations with Feyenoord for the defender, who is rated at €50million. However, Tottenham and Chelsea are the two Premier League clubs showing most interest in the Feyenoord star.

This suggests a transfer battle could ignite when the transfer window reopens in the next few months. Hancko still has three years left on his contract at De Kuip, where he has won the Eredivisie title, the Dutch Cup, and the Dutch Super Cup.

The Slovak’s stock has risen in the last couple of years, especially after his impressive showings in the 2024 European Championships. The former Sparta Prague man’s versatility is an asset, and his clean injury record since arriving in the Eredivisie coupled with his ability to create and score goals, would be a massive bonus for Postecoglou’s Spurs.

Keeping all the factors in mind, Tottenham must go all out for Hancko as a potential replacement for Davies.
