Tottenham target playing in Germany favours Saudi switch

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman in recent times

One would expect Tottenham Hotspur to bolster their forward unit in the summer as Timo Werner’s loan spell comes to an end, while there is speculation surrounding the future of Richarlison.

Son Heung-min has been a brilliant servant for Spurs since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015, however, his form has nosedived. Set to enter the final year of his contract in July, the South Korean star’s future at N17 is not secure either and the club chiefs could cash him in before the 2025/26 campaign starts.

The Lilywhites could save eye-watering wages of around £445k-a-week by offloading Son, Richarlison and Werner. Losing three experienced campaigners in one window would be a risky business, but Daniel Levy and Johan Lange must take a gamble in the summer with an eye for long-term gains in the future.

Daniel Levy is looking to stick with his newly adapted transfer policy of bringing in young players with bags of potential who can become a mainstay at Hotspur Way for years to come, and the Lilywhites have been scouring the market for such prospects. However, over the last few days, Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou likes to operate with dynamic and pacey wingers who can sprinkle a little bit of flair in the final third. We have seen Spurs struggle to unlock rigid defences from wide areas this season, and that is why there is a need to add to that position during the off-season.

Kingsley Coman has emerged as a target, and a fresh update has now shed light on what it would take for the North Londoners to price him away from Bayern Munich.

According to reliable Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg on X, Bayern Munich are ready to give Coman the greenlight to leave at the end of the season. He states that it would take an offer of just €30m-€40m to sign the winger, but despite interest from the Premier League, the Frenchman is leaning towards a move to Saudi Arabia.

Coman is among the most decorated players in Europe right now, having won a total of 29 trophies in his illustrious career so far. The France international has represented three clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern, amassing over 350 first-team appearances combined thus far. After spells at PSG and Juventus, the 28-year-old has carved a niche for himself with Bayern.

However, by the time the 2025/26 season starts, the Paris-born star will be 29. Although there are no doubts about Coman’s quality, volumes of experience at the highest level and winning mentality, the wide-man has an awful injury record. The French speedster has missed 146 games due to a combination of various injury problems and fitness concerns since arriving at Bayern back in 2015.

Potentially replacing an injury-prone Richarlison with Coman—a player who will turn 29 in July and also has chronic fitness issues and availability problems would make absolutely no sense for Tottenham. Moreover, it would be highly improbable for the North London outfit to compete with the kind of contract offer that the Bayern ace is likely to get from the cash-rich Saudi Pro League.

With Coman seems to have his heart set on a move to the Middle East, this update should come as a blessing in disguise for Tottenham. Under no circumstances should we pursue a move for Coman.
