Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi emerges as one of the managerial candidates to replace Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou
After finishing the 2023/24 Premier League campaign in fifth position, missing out on Champions League football by just two points after a late-season blip, Tottenham Hotspur were expected to push for a top-four this term under Ange Postecoglou.
However, things have not gone as per the plan for Ange Postecoglou in his second year in charge of the North London club. He has endured a horrendous run of injuries over the past few months, with 11 members of the first-team squad out of contention at one point. They are currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League, out of all cup domestic cup competitions and trailing AZ Alkmaar 1-0 from the first leg of the Europa League last-16 tie.
The Australian tactician has been under a lot of external pressure as many have called for him to be sacked amid Tottenham’s poor run of form. While the board have stuck by Ange Postecoglou so far, largely due to an unprecedented injury situation, speculation surrounding his future seems to have been intensified now.

According to a report from Italian outlet TuttoSport, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to have earmarked Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi as a possible replacement. They are keeping a close eye on the Italian tactician, who has just over 15 months left on his Inter Milan contract, expiring in June 2026.
Having forged his name as one of the best coaches in Europe in recent years, Simone Inzaghi has been with Inter Milan since July 2021 and is now eyeing back-to-back Serie A titles, with the club sitting first in the league with 10 games to go. He also guided Inter to the 2022/23 Champions League final, only to be narrowly beaten by Manchester City.
Before joining the Nerazzurri, the 48-year-old spent five years with Lazio, where he lifted a Coppa Italia trophy and won two Supercoppa Italianas. The aforementioned report adds that the Tottenham officials along with Levy have been left impressed by Inzaghi’s impact and longevity at San Siro, leading to a possible approach between now and the end of the season.

This is not the first time Inzaghi’s name has been linked with a move to Hotspur Way. He was part of the shortlist to take over the reins at the club the season after Jose Mourinho was given the boot.
Big Ange has had a really difficult second season at the helm at Tottenham. He has had to deal with more injuries than any other club in the Premier League. The 59-year-old has missed key players for large parts of the campaign, affecting the team’s routines, development and morale. This is the biggest reason why the Lilywhites are languishing in 13th spot in the table.

Nonetheless, Big Ange appears to be running out of time at White Hart Lane. He must first beat AZ Alkmaar in the return leg and qualify for the last eight of the Europa League to buy time. Failure in doing so could be curtains for the Greek-Aussie tactician, with Levy seemingly keen on hiring Inzaghi to lead the project at Spurs.
