Tottenham face a big battle to land Jobe Bellingham in the summer following the entry of Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a productive January transfer window, adding three new faces to Ange Postecoglou’s roster. A glut of injuries have ravaged Spurs’ season and exposed their lack of depth in certain areas of the pitch.
The defensive and attacking units have been largely hit by injuries, leading to the club signing a goalkeeper, defender and forward during the winter transfer window. Now, the North Londoners have started planning for the summer transfer window after an extremely disappointing season, seemingly setting their sights on a central midfielder.
Tottenham have reportedly scouted Sunderland sensation Jobe Bellingham multiple times this season and could make a move if he decides to leave at the end of the season. Sunderland may even consider selling the central midfielder if they receive a sizeable bid and fail in their promotion push.

Having joined Sunderland from Birmingham City in the summer of 2023, Jobe Bellingham has established himself as an important cog in midfield. After bagging seven goals in 47 appearances in his first season for the Black Cats, he has shone this campaign with four goals and three assists in 32 Championship appearances.
However, Tottenham are not the only club interested in a move for the England youth international. According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Chelsea are preparing a big bid for Bellingham, who also has admirers at Arsenal and Manchester United.
While the teenager is contracted at the Stadium of Light until 2028, the Championship club have a gentleman’s agreement in place, allowing Bellingham to leave this summer if a suitable offer arrives, which is believed to be around £20million. Given that Tottenham are planning to cash in on Yves Bissouma during the summer transfer window and replace him with a younger and dynamic box-to-box operator, Chelsea’s plan to big bid for Bellingham is a big blow for Ange Postecoglou.

At 19, the Sunderland man fits the profile of a midfielder who is technically strong and tactically smart to thrive in Big Ange’s high-pressing, attacking system at White Hart Lane. The Australian tactician would love a strong passer and tenacious presence with speed and stamina to operate as a No.8, and Stourbridge-born talent will be ideal for that role.

As for Chelsea, they have performed well in Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge and are fighting for a spot in the Champions League. If they do get Champions League football or at least qualify for Europe again, it would be difficult for Spurs to beat Chelsea to the English midfielder’s services.
That being said, however, a prodigious talent like Bellingham will be given time and space to develop at Tottenham—something which cannot be said with absolute certainty at Stamford Bridge.
