Ange Postecoglou is on shaky ground at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham are preparing for a busy summer window as they look to refresh their squad—with or without Ange Postecoglou—after both mentally and physically taxing campaign.

The North Londoners are languishing in the bottom half of the table and have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions, with injuries across the campaign having derailed Ange Postecoglou’s second season in charge at N17. The 1-0 loss to AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the Europa League last-16 tie, followed by a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League, have only added to the growing pressure on the Australian tactician.

This, combined with the uninspiring performances and form Spurs have shown all season, has only fuelled rumours that Ange Postecoglou is on the brink. The 59-year-old has been supported by the club chiefs during the difficult times, but with key players returning to the squad in recent weeks, the expectations are better performances and positive results.

Tottenham’s season hangs by a thread, and so does Postecoglou’s future at White Hart Lane. Failing to go past AZ Alkmaar could see the axe fall on the Greek-Australian gaffer.

Ange Postecoglou has to beat AZ Alkmaar on Thursday in the Europa League to keep his position at the club safe.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes the club will stick with Postecoglou until the end of the season regardless of the result in the Europa League on Thursday. Regardless of that, he admits that Daniel Levy and Co. could start due diligence on potential replacements before a new head coach is hired in the summer.

“I don’t see the point in sacking them until the end of the season if they fail against AZ Alkmaar. I mean, there’s nothing to play for. They’re out of all the domestic trophies,” Paul Robinson exclusively told Tottenham News.

“There’s no point in sacking them if they do lose to Alkmaar. You’re not going to gain anything by bringing a manager in between now and the end of the season to gain potentially two or three places higher up in the Premier League.

“If he doesn’t win that Europa League, the season’s going to be a failure, in the same way with Manchester United as well. There are two teams that are hinging a season’s success on this Europa League, and it’s Tottenham and Manchester United. If Tottenham don’t win the Europa League, it’s been a disastrous season.

“You may as well take the time and do your due diligence and recruit a manager in the summer.”

Tottenham have endured a hugely underwhelming season

If reports are to be believed, Daniel Levy already has a potential replacement in mind. The Tottenham honcho has set his sights on hiring Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi at the end of the season.

Inzaghi is among the highly rated and respected coaches in Europe, thanks to the great work he’s done in Italy. He has taken Inter Milan to great heights in recent years, impressing the onlookers with his style of play, tactics, principles and man-management skills.

Should Levy decide enough is enough and pulls the trigger on Big Ange, Inzaghi would not be a bad choice to replace him. For now, though, Big Ange still has the job and his sole focus is on beating AZ Alkmaar and progressing to the last eight of the Europa League.
