Tottenham face a battle against several Premier League rivals to sign Sporting CP star Francisco Trincao
Tottenham Hotspur could make some radical changes to their squad after a forgettable 2024/25 campaign. While key players have returned from injury problems in recent weeks and the squad is looking much healthier than before, there is no doubt that tough decisions will be made at the end of the season.
Forwards like Son Heung-min, Timo Werner and Richarlison have reportedly been placed on the chopping block. Should the experienced trio depart, the Hotspur Way chiefs will be required to replace them adequately in the squad before the new campaign begins. Thus, Ange Postecoglou has been hunting for firepower in attack in preparation for his third season in North London.
According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham have been scouting Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao for the past 18 months as they look to prepare a bid for his signature. But signing him would not be straightforward as top-flight rivals Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal also remain keen.

Francisco Trincao burst onto the scene at SC Braga before Barcelona came calling for his signature. However, the Portuguese failed to cut the mustard at Barcelona and joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan during the 2021/22 season. It turned out to be an unsuccessful loan spell with Wolves, as the left-footed attacker only managed three goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.
Since moving back to Portugal, Trincao has found his feet with Sporting CP. He is having an impressive season for the Lions, with nine goals and 14 assists to his name in all competitions to date.
The aforementioned report adds that the 25-year-old is expected to leave Sporting at the end of the season, even though his departure is far from guaranteed. Trincao will enter the final year of his contract (Transfermarkt) in June, so the Portuguese champions would know that this summer presents them with the best opportunity to cash him in.

The former Barcelona flop has managed to resurrect his stuttering career at Sporting, where he has managed 32 goals and 28 assists in 142 appearances. And with just one year left on his contract, Trincao represents an interesting option to bolster Tottenham’s struggling attacking unit. Versatile in nature, the nine-cap Portugal international could give the Spurs head coach flexibility to use him as per the game’s demands. A left-footed right-wide attacker, he’d be a terrific option to cover and compete with Brennan Johnson next season.
