The North Londoners have been vying for a move for a new centre forward for the third successive window as Daniel Levy looks to hand Ange Postecoglou (or whoever is in charge at N17 post-summer) some qualitative depth upfront, and Tottenham Hotspur have been keeping tabs on Ipswich Town number nine Liam Delap.
The Manchester City academy graduate has been playing impressively for the Tractor Boys and has been acting as a focal point for Kieran McKenna’s side while pulling them for an English top-tier survival. And the 22-year-old has netted 10 league goals so far this campaign despite his employers’ struggles to aggregate points after they have won only three of their 28 games, but this exactly shows why he could end up being an ideal figure at Hotspur Way.
There had been reports suggesting that Ipswich Town will be remaining a few in line with £40m for the 22-year-old’s signature, which is a considerably bargain fee in the current inflated market.
We know the price, but now there is new competition for Delap

Although that being said, the Lilywhites aren’t alone in the pursuit of his signature. Multiple Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea are vying for his signature, and if Ipswich are relegated, they might have to end up selling Delap. However, to put more layers of complexity on a probable transfer, Newcastle United have entered the race for his signing, and the Toons have been scouting the player for a possible summer transfer, per Football Insider.
Newcastle United would be looking to replace Callum Wilson in the off-season with the veteran’s contract at St. James Park set to expire at the end of the ongoing season, and with time, it’s looking highly unlikely that the chiefs at Tyneside would consider extending his contract. This opens up a space for a new centre forward in Eddie Howe’s roster, and they would be looking to sign Delap if such an opportunity were to arise.

For Tottenham, Delap fits perfectly into the playing style that Ange Postecoglou has deployed at N17 with his high physicality complemented by his poaching instincts that are continually a nightmare to the defenders, and then comes his hard-working ethics off the ball that could go on and help the North Londoners massively as well. But Levy needs to be ready to pounce on the opportunity of securing a striker of Delap’s calibre if Ipswich were to go down.
