Blow for Tottenham as Liverpool boss Arne Slot wants to sign impressive PL striker

Date:

Liverpool enter the transfer race for Tottenham-linked Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap

Tottenham Hotspur bolstered their attacking unit during the winter transfer window by signing Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich. Spurs do have an option to buy Tel at the end of the season, but the decision will purely lie on the Frenchman whether he wants to make his move permanent in North London or return back to Bayern Munich.

The Lilywhites are planning to revamp their forward department in the summer. The club chiefs are open to offloading Son Heung-min, Timo Werner and Richarlison and replacing them adequately in the head coach’s roster. And Spurs have reportedly identified Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as a potential option to replace Richarlison.

Liam Delap has been in impressive form this season, catching the attention of several Premier League heavyweights with his combination of pace, power and physicality. He has netted 10 goals and supplied two assists in 27 league appearances, leading Ipswich Town’s charge to achieve top-flight safety.

The 22-year-old striker, who is under contract with at Portman Road until 2029, has become one of the emerging figures in English football, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs. Now, according to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Liverpool have entered the race for Delap. They have stepped up their interest in signing the Winchester-born talent ahead of the summer.

The Reds entering the race for Delap is a massive blow for Spurs. Unlike Tottenham, Liverpool have had an impressive campaign, sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table with a 15-point buffer over Arsenal. Arne Slot is planning to strengthen the squad in the summer after an unproductive last two transfer windows.

It looks like Darwin Nunez, who missed a critical penalty in the shootout during Liverpool’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday evening, will be on his way out in the summer and Slot wants to replace him with Delap. The aforementioned report adds that the Merseyside club have scouted the Ipswich striker multiple times since the start of 2025.

Delap has performed really well in what has been his breakout season in the Premier League. At 22, the English striker would be ideal to cover and compete with Dominic Solanke next season whilst adding quality depth to the squad.

However, securing the Ipswich man’s signature won’t be straightforward for Tottenham. With the club currently far from securing Champions League qualification and Liverpool now in the mix too, Daniel Levy will have to put in serious effort to convince the young striker that North London is the right destination for his next step.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

If Levy can convince Delap to join Tottenham ahead of Slot’s Reds, it would represent a coup of sorts. For now, though, Liverpool upping their ante for the England under-21 striker is bad news for the Lilywhites.
